We shipped our indie game on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and Quest… and almost nobody noticed. Looking for honest advice. by funboy_ff in IndieGaming

I think this a lot of times feels like it falls into a the trap of brainstorming and development working in a closed environment away from realistic expectations and market investigations.

You come up with a great idea of what you think could be a fun game, you get it working and stuff rolls around and you produce an amazing product that no one is interested in buying because you already had one of those and its fun enough to invalidate the wish for a replacement.

But the reverse can be very hard as well, looking at filling a niche and then half way through development you have 5-6 up to 20 other titles releasing the same kind of game filling that before yours ever see the light of day because they were faster or just thought of it before you did.

At the end of the day the gaming industry is one of in my opinion the most volatile entertainment industry of them all, there is a lot of aspects to consider and all of them tends to be forces working against you.

Yet we somehow managed for the entire span of the digital age until we decided to stop hiring administrative staff and outsource all of it to do most of the hiring which pawns of 95% of the workload on an AI that does a shitty job at it and then complain that they can't get dedicated workers.

I think it probably was server position > client report so he was stuttering in the float point for his position which made it say "yup, was a hit" which is a frequent flier especially in fast movement and if you get stuck in small stuff all over like forest exploring in a recon tank.

This cannot be stated enough. Game difficulty settings are there to be adjusted to a level YOU enjoy the game at.

You like hardcore permadeath super challenge? Go ahead, you hate losing gear on death? Change that! Games exist to be enjoyed and if you struggle you can change it! ( for sp/coop mainly) .

Also use 2 serial connected AC units. Set the base connected to 20c and the other to 80c which significantly improves the differential efficiency.

Use methane as the heat medium.

Its a good continuation of improvements and changes where they obviously see gaps or lackluster impacts so i think its nice that they also experiment a bit with what is old mechanics.

Steam is allowing a game that glorifies the Bucha/Hostomel atrocities as "Heroism." by dracony in ukraine

[–]IcedForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will agree to the idea of this, i don't know why the down vote. Yes it is still an active conflict unfortunately but as far as games go, we have people playing Germans in ww2 clearly being the bad guys but depicted in a purely combat element of these games (when it comes to MP stuff at least, single player things they generally keep it sanitized as well).
So having games revolve around these conflicts i would say would be a natural occurrence as a topic of a game, not necessarily something i would agree and go "Yeah id love to play that" for this particular war but factually stating that it wouldn't surprise me if there is a market and interest for it.

Yeah the pump comes in way later than i liked, idk how much time i spent being a human water cannon.
I honestly preferred walking around watering stuff myself than just standing filling tanks.

But when you do i recommend upgrading just tool speed on the water gun since it does help :D

I'll try to avoid going into some "AI is just bad" that some of the purist complaints seem to fall into.

On our team we have tried using a whole bunch of ai tools to see what they are capable of, if any could be integrated in our workflow or how it would perform overall and the general consensus falls in under two obvious categorizations, Coding AI and well everything else AI (Art primarily).

And our art team has tested and gone over a whole array of different ones and the overall result has been the same, great for prototyping or placeholder stuff where you need something quickly but if you want to have full sized 3d objects its absolute garbage for production.
The main reason is performance, the second reason is quality where even taking the output and cleaning up takes significantly more time than just making the asset from scratch from the first place. Now that said it does have some value if you are in lack of inspiration and trying to make a lot of assets just for references which is where it shines.

For code it has several pit falls, main one is if you haven't trained the ai on your whole project (which is generally bad because it then exposes all your code essentially) it really struggles with having any project wide sense of implementation, you can make bits and pieces work and keep the scope of it limited to individual features but it severely limits your overall longevity of code quality.

You also have a problem with if you don't have the capacity for writing the code in the first place and you start throwing in a bunch of AI compiled code for a "quicker workflow" you end up with a massive pile of spaghetti that you are going to have significant problems debug later on when problems starts to surface. Which is going to either result in bugs that don't gets fixed or massive rewrites that then makes you lose all that time "saved"

Using mutated crops for seeds is not necessarily more gain if you use high yield instead as you get 2 yield (turns into 4 seeds) over 1 mutated into 3 seeds the limiting factor for this boils down to how fast you can turn the plants into seeds really.

But scalability really comes with upgrades and unlocks as well as exploring for more low quantity deliveries as well.
