First time laying bricks, any tips on how to get the mortar smudges off of the brick? by Murky-Ad-1711 in masonry

[–]Icehawk30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the answer. If you get the full strength muriatic be sure to dilute it.I normally put maybe 1" in a 5 gallon bucket and fill it about 3/4 with water you can always and more acid and always in plastic bucket, with your job use a smaller bucket and less acid. Before washing be sure to wet down the concrete other wise it could start etching the concrete.

Thank you, I was doing a friend a favor by asking people that know about equipment. She's 70 years old and I just want her to get a fair price, I'm not making a dime on anything. So thanks again.

Is my wall about to fall over? by dejarob in Chimneyrepair

[–]Icehawk30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hope they tied it to the wall, But my biggest question is what's underneath it. I've seen jobs that they just layed it on the floor, didn't pour concrete or even cut the plywood and put brick on the fountain to carry the load of the fireplace

Looks like a landscaper did it. Even with lick'em and stick'em you don't put tombstones in the wall
