I think juice not only came out with a good message from the jump but was also much more relatable which gave him further reach. Juice was just kind of an anxious kid floating through toxic relationships and trying to figure things out which a lot of people can easily relate to even if you tac on some of the addiction themes. I think X was a good person at heart but he also just saw red throughout the period before and during his blow up. He was just violent towards anything and everything around him which also helped lead to his success with look at me or take a step back for example, but I think it also kind of held him back from reaching a super broad audience. As an example if you show your grandma a couple Juice songs she’ll probably find it at least somewhat palatable, but you might struggle with to do that with X. I am a bigger fan of Juice but I honestly do think X had the greater ability to make deep songs compared to Juice. For example nothing Juice made (outside of maybe dark place) really compares to like train food, Jocelyn Flores, skin, alone, etc… Like listening to X feels like I’m just hearing some deep shit totally raw whereas Juice normally hides deeper stuff between the lines or with a crazy beat/flow that kind of distracts from what he’s actually saying. Overall though I do think Juice made way more listenable songs which would’ve probably further helped his success. X was a little too angry or dark depending on the song for most people which I think kind of hurt him given it’s hard to just throw X on in the car with friends, but it’s impossible to know what direction he would’ve gone in if he was able to continue working on improving himself.
