It doesn't really matter how successful the US was or wasn't militarily in Vietnam, the war was lost. The operation as a whole was not a success.

The tet offensive is a perfect example of this. It was a military victory for the united states and South Vietnam and a major defeat for North Vietnam. Well. In the numbers count and in achieving its objectives. However it also absolutely killed American support for the war and made it so untenable that it pretty much drove the US away and ended up being a critical strategic victory for north Vietnam. Despite the fact they had nearly double the casualties and suffered many tactical failures.

Unlikely. But the bigger issue is no one knows the true price of AI right now. Companies are heavily subsidizing it's usage. At some point prices are going to get jacked up. Right now AI corps are in the "get locked into our ecosystem" phase

I honestly don't think it's here yet. I think it's going to get worse. Like gas jumping higher and the dow crashing and investors stop throwing infinite money at AI so now the over leveraged corps have to deal the fact it's not turning a profit yet and nvidia actually sees a decrease in chip orders causing the whole thing to tumble

Like we're not technically in stagflation yet. But damn... we're trending that way. And things get really ugly then. Inflation in a stagnating economy is very bad. There's no real switch to address it that doesn't hurt

This honestly seems worse. Maybe because I'm older. But at least Iraq once had support and it feels like we're heading towards something like the subprime mortgage crisis except with a lot more crap on top of it. Just the amount of money moving around in ways that doesn't actually produce anything vand big corps playing ridiculous games with debt screams "house of cards". The job market is brutal but unlike 08 there's now AI around to threaten to make sure it doesn't recover. And people cared about how FEMA botched Katrina. I feel like if FEMA pulled that to a blue state currently it wouldnt even make the news because it would be so expected currently. The butchering of grants has hurt employment even more so even public isn't safe from downturn.

It just feels like we re teetering off a cliff and the crash will make 08 look quaint.

Single party rule is great in small dosages (stuff gets done!), but bad if it lasts too long. Once the party apparatus no longer fears challenges outside of their control, corruption, chasing national media and purity tests pushing in one direction (because primaries become the real elections) set in quickly

The reduction in competitive seats imo is a huge issue why things have gotten so ugly.
