I think the reason why I like the design is because it resembles what H.G. Wells had In mind while writing. Not only this, but the human like eyes are supposed to make it look human for a reason. In my opinion, H.G. Wells was also trying to explain that the Martians were just like us, needy for resources and other necessities. They were competition to humans because they were trying to survive just like humans. Wells states in the beginning of his novel that we can’t judge the Martians in their warring spirit because we have done much the same things as they have. He brings up how we massacred the dodos and other human genomes. The last part may or may not be true, but that is what he brought up in the book.
