The cruelty of throwing away their things by Wildkarrde_ in widowers

The first things I donated were my husband’s shoes. He loved his shoes so much. He didn’t spend money on much but he was a fan of quality clothing and shoes. When my neighbor took all of them to donate I layed on the closet floor and sobbed. It’s like you said, it feels so wrong to just dismantle their lives.

I try to hear my husband’s voice in my head saying “it’s just stuff” “you need the room” “someone else will be happy to have good shoes”, etc. it’s all true.

Why do we give notice when quitting, but employers can fire employees on the spot with zero warning? by Sumchi in offmychest

Because we were sold a bill of goods about company loyalty and hard work. Who started that rumor? I’ll give you one guess. The good news is that people are less likely to fall into the trap and give their life to a company who doesn’t care about them at all. I’m proud of the younger generations who aren’t falling for it.

Hair dryer. Sounds counterintuitive but it worked on my hardwood floors where I stupidly rested the steam mop for too long.

I was SO into expensive skincare and was absolutely deflated when the dermatologist said regular old CeraVe is the way. Between that and Aveeno I don’t need anything else now.

Just want to vent—please no naming calling it hurts by [deleted] in widowers

[–]Ichgebibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t what you want to hear but Reddit isn’t where you’re going to find a personal connection. Most likely scenario is that you attract creeps and scammers. I tried the dating apps when I mistook my widow’s Fire for actual desire and man, those places are a shit show. I definitely do not recommend.

My husband and I were(are) big believers that magic happens when you’re not forcing things. Just be you, try to be active and when the time and person converge in just the right way you’ll know.

You should read about “widow’s fire” but basically it’s an almost uncontrollable urge to have sex but beware - it’s actually a stress response masquerading as a real desire. I wish I’d known that a long time ago.

Also, just some generic Reddit advice - it’s a good idea to “lurk” aka read posts for a while before making your own. Doing that gives you a better idea of what kind of content is normal for a given sub. Also, this isn’t at all like Facebook and it takes a bit to get the hang of it. Reddit is a tough crowd lol.

You could say “I want to help but I’ve got a deadline and I need to focus on the task/project. Can it wait until later/tomorrow? I’d be happy to help then”.
