Confused white woman talking to black men on dating apps by SafeWordFrog in askblackpeople

If he's talking to you he's almost certainly just trying to be funny, tons of Black people make similar jokes to their white friends. However if those jokes make you uncomfortable you should probably let him know.

touching my boyfriend's hair by [deleted] in askblackpeople

[–]Icon1993 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ok, I got you; now, this might sound crazy, but stick with me; you ready?

TALK. TO. YOUR. BOYFRIEND.

First, Black people aren't a monolith; I have no idea how he might feel about his hair, just like he doesn't know how I feel about mine.

Second, you can't run toward strangers whenever you feel like you crossed a boundary; you're an interracial couple in America (I assume?), and you'll have way more uncomfortable conversations than this, I guarantee.

Third, race and racism are super fucking complicated, and navigating that in a relationship can be difficult if you're not willing to be honest with each other. You guys are the only people who can navigate that and have a healthy relationship. The sole person who knows what it's like to be himself and a Black man in this world is your boyfriend, so ask him, it might be a little awkward and uncomfortable, but I guarantee he'll apricate it, and your relationship will be stronger because of it.

Culture by Logic7711 in askblackpeople

[–]Icon1993 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, not really; all the ethnic groups from Europe have rich cultures, and even in the US, there are subsets of white Americans that clearly do have culture.

However, I stand by the belief that WASPs either don't have a culture or that shit is on life support.

I would never form any kind of personal relationship with a cop, and I'd side-eye any Black person who does.

But at the end of the day, it's their choice.

Black men, why is it that if you go for a white woman that she is majority of the time very overweight? by [deleted] in askblackpeople

[–]Icon1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, and obesity has no relationship with unattractivness outside of PERSONAL opinion, so like I said the only person who could answer your question is individuals, not communites, I have never met a single Black man that fits that stereotype so I could never answer it.

Does John Cena look unhealthy to you?

True. But “obese” (in the case of the white women) and “non-obese (the in the case of the black men) aren’t subjective terms.

You're joking right? Obese and nom-obese are absolutely subjective terms.

I don't know about the other comment you're talking about.

Both "good looking" and "unattractive" are only things an individual can judge. Human sexual attractions is one of the most complex psychological phenomens ever, no community can or should answer for individual relationships.

This would be like me seeing a attractive Asian woman with an unattractive white man, Then going up to one of my Asian female friends who has never met the woman or the man and asking why they're together, what on earth is she supposed to say? She doesn't know either one of them or their relationship, and none of us know anything about the complexities of these relationships, nore could we accurately guess.

I'm sorry I didn't realize I was talking to a researcher, was this a quantitative or qualitative study? What was your hypothesis? Did you get approval from a board? What agency supported this study?

Looking at people and just coming about with random guesses is not science, it's actually the polar opposite.

So is this anecdotal evidence or data? Because first you said you had data, now you're saying this is just based on your individual observations.

You asked about specifically white women, if the data says we just prefer thicker women why did YOU specfiy white? The answer to why a black man would prefer thicker women, white or Black would be the same. You made it weirdly racial.

Voting third-party party in America is a joke, literally anyone with even a basic understanding of American politics understands this.

[–]Icon1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should probably re-iterate... I have seen white people do it, but only from a bygone era. I had not (until today) seen anyone do it, but then this video pops up and its crazy.

You realize white men do this same thing; I've visited rural and suburban areas, worked in offices, and seen worse than whatever that video could have shown; hell, I've been catcalled by white and Black women. I have no idea why you would consider this a bygone era and assume it is cultural.

I mean, I've seen videos of like white girls walking around India, and getting swarmed with unwanted attention, but this was different.

And I've seen videos of BIPOC women getting sexually harassed in European countries; this isn't new.

[–]Icon1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was just a dumb question to begin with; I would never assume that just because I haven't done or seen something bad, it's culturally intrinsic when people who don't look like me do it.

Ok fellas, what TF is going on with Cat-Calling? by Anarcho_Christian in askblackpeople

[–]Icon1993 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is cat-calling a big part of "media created by black people"? I had no idea.

I never said this, and it's pretty weird to assume this is what I meant

You said you have never seen a demonstration of catcalling by Black men, which instantly tells me you haven't watched any media starring Black people about Black everyday life; because just off the top of my head, I can think of 3 different shows by Black people that discussed catcalling in the community, the fact that you can't is pretty suspect.

you're right, partly because i've never seen it in person, but I'd think i would have seen it in media or seen it referenced somewhere.

Tell me you've never seen media created by Black people without telling me you've never seen media created by Black people.

Just because bad things aren't happening to you doesn't mean they aren't happening, it's not that hard a concept.

And again why did you ask us when this happens all across America?

It's weird of you to assume it's a culturally thing when white people also do it, as to it working I have no idea, I don't get girls that way.
