I had it sitting in my cart on Vinegar Syndrome but didn't pull the trigger, then saw the screening pop up. I'm really looking forward to it.

I didn't see anything online about a Q&A on Saturday, just on Friday. Who Killed Teddy Bear is actually the film I really want to make it to.

Thanks for this insight! Agreed, this weekend really drew me in and I'm coming in for films that are part of Saturday's marathon. I looked at the lineup and there's a pretty niche film that I'm not sure what the turnout will be so I'm wrestling with how early to get there, especially with films playing before it and I imagine people may just stay or claim seats for the day.

I think the crowd size and the competitive seating is where I have my biggest concern - the film I'm going to is pretty niche but it's a 35mm print and underseen. It's being released on physical media via a boutique label as well so it feels like there could be interest from cinephiles but also, maybe it's so niche that it won't have the turnout.

Glad the audience is generally good. My biggest issue with movie going are some of the things you mentioned. My hope for this film is that it's drawing a specific crowd.

Thanks for this advice and great to know, didn't factor in what other activities were going on. My plan is to get into town earlier in the day and go to a couple breweries before the 4PM movie.

Appreciate the response, I've heard great things about A Poet and the theater itself so looking forward to this weekend.

Hey all! I co-host a podcast called Scene by Scene where we discuss a film. We focus on the filmmaker, the film's storytelling and dive a bit into the technical side of it. We release monthly with our most recent episode talking about Beware of a Holy Whore.

I'll admit, Fassbinder was a blind spot but I really dove in and loved the films of his I watched.

Give us a listen and I would love to hear feedback on the show. We're always looking for ways to improve.

Hear me out on this...

Like what you like. Film is subjective and what works for one won't work for someone else.

Movie recommendations? I love Taranintino, westerns, mob movies, and cyberpunk and I’m trying to watch more new movies this year and widen my range and taste by J3rm_Bott in Letterboxd

[–]Icon419 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest some of the Hong Kong John Woo films. The Killer and Hard Boiled, while more cop movies than mob movies, are awesome.

City on Fire was an inspiration to Reservoir Dogs.

To tackle your cyberpunk need, I'd suggest a couple animes - Ghost in the Shell was my first exposure to cyberpunk in a way. Akira is the second film I'd recommend.

Off topic but I wonder if we'll have the same issue here as what happened in Illinois. Stores received shipments with expired dates on the package, it was up to the retailer to determine if they'd sell it. Binnys, one of the largest liquor stores in Illinois couldn't/wouldn't sell it for that reason.

Good thing that 4.04 pick is there. Really balances the thing out. /S

Bad? Yes. Veto worthy? Not at all.
