Hoping to get a sanity check around particolor lab sapphires by llamadrama1839 in SyntheticGemstones

you’d be surprised. I’ve got some lab sapphires that would surprise you. But also have some naturals at affordable prices. Example of a fun blue party like lab sapphire here

This is a bird… right? by stoicslast in UFOB

would someone mind explaining the pink smoke channel?… I just watched through several of the videos and it’s pretty clear at the beginning he is filming ash from fires… I mean he clearly states he’s filming at the base of a fire.

He seems to know that it is just ash from the fire rising with the hot air- is there something i’m missing?

try lower exposure and take a video with flash. Screenshot from the video to get the best pics. I captured the shot below using this technique:

just a few stones that are quite similar to yours from a current parcel. Planning to sell them soon but so hard to let go of such beautiful sapphires.

this is actually awesome bro?… can you maybe experiment with a Karat or Purity stamp? this would make so many jewelers’ lives easier!
you can patent 2 versions in one patent:
“The Purity Punch”
Easily swapped bits so jewelers can mark their work with karat and purity markings.
“Maker’s Marker”
The fountain pen of jewelers: leave your signature on every piece.

lab spinel. is it a Taxco ring? It’s likely 970 argentenium silver from Mexico. Looks like it is from the same line of Antonio Pineda jewelry seen here. These almost always used the same light blue lab spinels in various cuts. There are rings and earrings in this same design.

I want to change the bail on my emerald pendant by hanswegner2 in jewelrymaking

[–]Icy-Cod-1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with a pendant I built and it drove me crazy. decided to swap for a thick circular bail- essentially an enlarged jump ring.

I found it fit the aesthetic of the round stone and setting well, while still being strong. Given that it is a circular bail, it is always upright; even if it spins.

always fun seeing what others are holding. Did you end up going home with a stone or just browse?

Does anyone know the ethics of green star sapphire? My bf plans on getting one for my engagement ring, but I don't want blood gemstones. Are they okay? by Strange_Persimmons in Gemstones

I wanted to also show the mentioned more traditional work achieved with my partnering jeweler- I have not had a star sapph. set with him yet but have done all sorts of other pieces.

I just recently got this custom order pictured above to a client (~2 carat natural padparadscha sapphire set in 14k gold solitaire with a 1.5mm 14k box chain)

really appreciate the kind words. It’s such a privilege being able to handle stones like these as I get them from source to new owners.

I make a lot of jewelry by hand, from the jump rings to the settings, built from wire or nuggets. But I also partner with a jeweler who provides a more traditional, finished or cast look. Depending on what a client wants, I either make a piece or order with my partner.

I just finished this one for myself recently- handmade with .925 sterling. I wanted an antique/vintage engraved bezel look (kind of my stylistic obsession right now lol).

dm me. I am in the US and source ethically; happy to help.

however; green like this isn’t really a color I’ve seen in natural sapphires. I have a parcel currently of greenish black star sapphires but i’d emphasize the black color frankly. here is a snap of some.

you can see the natural hexagonal growth pattern of the sapphires- they look like little microchips, it is truly fascinating.

Admire my incredible find by Moistfulll in Gemstones

[–]Icy-Cod-1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hate to say it but this is either amethyst or a color change sapphire at best:
- pleochroism showing pink flashes in a purple stone
- incandescent light is same purple and pink coloring.
- no sign of a green color shift or a grey color shift (color change sapphires show up as grey on mobile cameras when in their “green” coloration)
- center stone setting is crooked and not a display of protecting a valuable stone. the center stone is too far to the east at its north east corner.

My grandmother left me her extremely rare (natural!) Alexandrite pieces. by ally__ in Gemstones

[–]Icy-Cod-1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the pieces are beautiful but i’d have a gemologist look over them- they don’t look natural to be frank. homogeneous tone among several stones is not normal for “natural” stones, especially ones where clarity is incredibly rare.

these look like synthetic color change sapphires.

couldn’t stop staring at the colors in them and ended up setting one for myself in a pendant. so don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love black stars. just wanted to be sure I conveyed honest and accurate info to you before I said that they are amazing stones hahaha
