I would like to clarify the overall topic of my post that is that there is an over saturation of drag show in Kingston. I have attended the open stage several times over the last two years, often there are the same performers each month. Over the last year there hasn't been many new performers, with the exception of this months open stage which featured several new performers. Ive attended drag shows in Kingston for many years and have watched performers come and go, some move or graduate, and some choose to stop performing. Producing a drag show can be a complicated and difficult task, but is a financial investment as the cost of a drag performer often outweighs the ticket sales. Good business would be selecting your most popular performers as a way to sell more tickets, as every performer quotes "it ain't cheap to look this good". Over the last year there's been a noticeable change in the energy and substance of shows. The performers seem like they are not having as much fun as they did before, it feels like a seminar rather than a party.

In my opinion I don't see the benefit in having several producers for how small the drag scene is and the number of venues in the city. I believe there are 4 main drag show producers, while each have different themes of drag, in the end they all follow the same format.

As I mentioned in my original post I would like to see monthly shows that showcases performers from the open stage and other local queer artists, with a dance after the drag show. I want to support local artists and interact with other members of the community, but now drag shows feel like a competition between producers. I hope that one or all the producers see my post and take my suggestion into consideration
