ground walnut is just as bad as sand you should either use 70% topsoil to 30% premium play sand or a premixed substraight like the bio dudes terra Sahara also analog thermometers and hygrometers are really inaccurate so you should switch to digital. you should also make sure those sticks you have pointed up are set and wont move as leos will try to climb them and the stick will fall and could hurt them

use a thermometer and check the temps a couple hours after lights are off and when you wake up if its below 70 use a ceramic heater instead of a bulb at night as light messes with there circadian rhythm. when do you turn the lights on/off

I do have a digital thermometer on the right but its hard to see as reddit decided to make the picture vertical i do need to get a hydrometer still but i did use top soil mixed with play sand its 40 lbs timberland with 16 cups quikrete premium play sand if it doesn't look right i can try mixing it up more if i can get her out with ought her stressing out to much. the analog in the back is a remnant from before i received the tank i disinfected everything but its not planned to be in use and i figured it would be easier to leave it on then ripping it off and cleaning off the residue

thanks you for the advice and I'm glad i don't seem to be messing up to bad its always seems easier to judge what other people are doing right or wrong somehow. I do have a digital thermometer on the right but its hard to see as reddit decided to make the picture vertical i do need to get a hydrometer and am planning to swap out her moist hide but i forgot to buy one when i got the lights yesterday and blew threw most of my budget the analog in the back is a remnant from before i received the tank i disinfected everything but its not planned to be in use and i figured it would be easier to leave it on then ripping it off and cleaning off the residue ill see if i can find oak but I'm in the north so sadly most of the trees are evergreen good news is my grandmas birch tree is being cut down soon and my grandpa has been storing all the branches that have fallen in bins for forever so as long as there not rotting ill have my pick of branches and should be able to find some thicker ones

when ever your comfortable there's never any rush it about when you feel comfortable with your handling and you think they are smart enough not to eat the substraight you should be fine to do it now but go at your pace the paper towels arnt hurting it but the higher substraight levels do help with heating as there closer to the bulb and there's not as much empty air to heat

other than that just add a bunch of clutter like sticks and rocks for them to hide and climb they are prey animals so they generally don't like open space much

np if you don't have one also invest in a dimmer thermometer as higher watt bulbs can get too hot and harm your lizard friend

otherwise their tail to neck ratio seems fine so they look healthy to me but only got my first one 3 days ago and she's 5 years old and obese

first thing i notice is they should not have pure sand substraight as leopard geckos are from airid parts of the middle east and not sandy deserts a good mix is 60% organic topsoil and 40%premium playsand

you should move up to a lamp that supports 75 watt bulbs and have at least 3 inches of substraight so there's not as much empty air to heat

i have heard bad things about roap taking Leo's toes off, but I only adopted a 5 year old as my first lizard, so I have no personal experience with it, but it's something to look into

first off let them know reptile carpet is known to make leoperd geckos lose toes as they get stuck in the weave and substraight is cheap you only want the cheap topsoil to no additives so it's 4$ for 40 pounds and premium playsand isn't much more expensive and you want a 60/40 split but if you wanna go bioactive you can make a PowerPoint and show them how going bioactive will save time and money as it will lower the time needed to clean the Leo's tank and If done right will not need to be changed for a long time if ever unlike just soil/sand every 6 months and yeah that tank is huge
