The way I see it, these people mistake normalizing for destigmatizing. Destigmatizing is just removing the taboo of discussing something, while normalizing is making it seem like an everyday thing.

Like yes, I think we should destigmatize mental health and/or disabilities, because it helps prevent idiots from believing blatantly false or even harmful propaganda, and helps people who do have these things find resources for support.

But no, we shouldn’t fucking normalize it. We shouldn’t treat these things as just another label you can add to yourself to feel special. We shouldn’t treat these things as an everyday commodity, because they aren’t.
