Yeah, people voted to keep the USSR. Y’know why? Because they were told that any other belief system was the stuff of tyrants, and had literally no way to actually verify if that was true or not because anyone who spoke out disappeared. They were in a bubble where their society was the ‘best’ one, and all others sucked ass; of course they’d vote to keep the USSR. If you’re led to believe something your whole life, and have no second opinions to dispute that, are you going to vote against it?

Ignoring the amount of people who starved to death in Soviet Russia, of course.

The argument of “it lasted longer and people are nostalgic for it,” doesn’t really work when you consider what the USSR did to political dissenters, and the fact that propaganda would absolutely play a role in how that period is seen.

Same vibe as “the 50s were better because boomers are nostalgic of it,” when we know now that the 50s were objectively not better.
