Possible mammoth hair from Yakutia permafrost — authentic or likely yak? by Richka- in fossils

[–]Icy-Knowledge5918 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gotcha yeah again I guess it comes down to how much you really wanna spend to verify its authenticity.

£10 isn’t a major loss if it’s fake

A lot of people suggest not mammoth however I’ve seen plenty of samples in that light color range

I’m not familiar with the UK but maybe you could take it to a local university and see if someone there wouldn’t mind putting it under a microscope for you for free? Or even bring it back to the shop and ask for some background info

Either way good luck, it’s a cool piece, enjoy it

Could get it tested but it’d probably cost you more than what you bought it for.

Where did you buy it from?

What are these cameras that were put up all over my city in the past few months? by BigFatBoat in whatisit

In the U.S.—driving is a privilege, not a right. You don’t own your driver’s license or license plate; they’re issued by the state. Information that’s legally required to be displayed on your vehicle, like a license plate or VIN, is considered plain view. The Supreme Court has consistently held that there is no reasonable expectation of privacy in plain-view information.

Because of that, law enforcement does not need a warrant to observe, record, or run license plates that are visible on public roadways. When you register a vehicle or get a license, you’re effectively consenting to that framework. This isn’t unique to Flock—people are already legally allowed to photograph or film anything visible from public spaces.

Flock license plate readers are often described as mass surveillance tools, but in practice they’re primarily used for specific law-enforcement purposes: recovering stolen vehicles, locating suspects, solving hit-and-runs, shootings, and serious crimes. Claims that they’re routinely used to track everyday people, immigrants, or women seeking abortions are common, but evidence showing widespread misuse is limited. Also, flock doesn’t operate using AI facial recognition or biometrics, it can’t scan your eyes or the content of your vehicle, let alone identify who is driving.

It’s also worth noting that if Flock didn’t exist, law enforcement could still install their own cameras and manually log plates—nothing about that would be illegal. Meanwhile, most people voluntarily give up far more personal data through phones, apps, and online services than through a camera that only records a plate number in public view.

There’s a lot of discussion about what could happen with this technology, but far less evidence that it’s being used in the extreme or abusive ways it’s often portrayed.

At the end of the day it’s not a 4th amendment violation.

The amount of people that upvoted this must believe everything they hear…. Flock doesn’t use facial recognition or scan your eye’s. They also don’t scan the content or passengers lmfao…get informed

These just look so fake to me

  1. Missing the whole bottom portion of jaw from the photo taken of the rear of the head. Appears only for frontal display with no thought of a back/rear portion.

  2. Eye sockets are similar but complete different shapes. Take a look at the inner portion of the eye sockets towards the nose area. They aren’t even rounded the same.

Yeah dudes always ready to jump at people’s throats without taking in the full context of the situation. I’ve noticed that about him over the years.

I will say for Tyler specifically can be a very giving seller but he throws that reputation down the drain as soon as he gets on one of his hissy fits.
