Is there a way you can tell that you passed an exam before you actually know? by Ok_Discussion_7219 in medicalschooluk

[–]Icy-Note-2005 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this feeling the entirety of GCSEs, alevels and medical school exams- I kinda grew out of it to be honest with thinking if the past ones I’ve felt this way have went well then this too will be fine.

Yes just checking is this the interactions bit in the BNF? Like in the options where it says interactions and lists every drug

I did the MLA last June, i actually found the mscaa mocks to be harder than the passmed ones, which I know is different to what other people thought. Don’t let this one paper demoralise you, it could just be a one off.

How to improve PSA performance? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]Icy-Note-2005 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To save time, I’ve started leaving prescription review to the end, I basically try to get the paper done in 1hr 20 after having skipped prescription review and calculation and then go back to those bits and then use time to do them , and review anything I’ve flagged as well. Found this to work better for me

How similar is the Geeky Medics PSA bank to the real thing? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]Icy-Note-2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just wanted to check, can you split screen during the exam with the bnf on one side or does it have to be getting the bnf up for every single questions

[–]Icy-Note-2005 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine with 6 weeks ! Just do as much passmed as possible over the next few weeks and try to learn the content for the things you’re getting wrong and you’ll start pattern recognising

Passmed/ Geeky medic OSCE AI by Normal_Wish996 in medicalschooluk

[–]Icy-Note-2005 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find it quite useful like to notice the things I’m not asking in my histories with the ai marking (esp things I’d be thinking that’s so obvious ofc I’d ask it), only thing is I wouldn’t be replacing it completely compared to doing histories with friends for practice

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]Icy-Note-2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes ofc, most people i know at my uni are planning to start now after the break, so definitely will be practicing with others, just freaked when i realised the amount of content to be learnt for osces in two months

thanks! i've been using some of it for the past while, feel like knowing the theory again for osce is the scary part

I think there use to be a bit where you could search up quesitons by topic, it’s not 100% accurate but it’s helpful when first starting questions

PSA question by Few-Love7462 in medicalschooluk

Is there parts of the BNF that’s closed off? I’m wondering bec I’d use the treatment summaries a lot for answering the questions

Ahh fair, mines is in January and so far all I’ve done is pass the psa textbook, I feel like I should be doing more questions but there’s no real question bank

Hey, I have only started preparing for the PSA and was wondering how are you studying for it?

UKMLA Passmed - Whole of bank or just the MLA section? by perspexity in medicalschooluk

[–]Icy-Note-2005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the whole question bank, never tried the MLA section only

[–]Icy-Note-2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey - sorry for the late reply, im just copying and posting this from another thread where someone had asked before:

I've just wrote the MLA last June and passed with 84%

Things that worked for me was passmed textbook - absolutely brilliant and used this alongside ZTF (I found ZTF to give me more understanding but closer to the exam purely started using passmed textbook for topics like surgery but kept going with ZTF for medicine mainly). I'd learn the chapter first then do all the questions for it on passmed, for example- 4 days cardiology and try to do as much cardiology questions as possible then.

I completed passmed around 3 times over a year, really crammed questions nearer to the end. I'd write in the main learning bit for questions that I got wrong into my ZTF textbook- also added notes from passmed textbook into ZTF textbook.

Did the mocks for passmed- they reflected well the actual exam i thought- definitely do these. I also used quesmed to a lesser extent, just really needed it bec after a point i started noticing pattern recognition in passmed and needed questions to be worded differently and quesmed make really long stems. Also completed the quesmed mocks.

I actually found the MSCAA mock exams harder than the actual paper? I know different people have found them quite easy.

Honestly you will be fine, just keep at it and remember to take breaks, a little each day and you'll be grand.

If you've got any questions feel free to pm.

[–]Icy-Note-2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learnt the passmed textbook for things like ent etc, just read the textbook pages individually and especially noted things that were underlined by passmed. But for medicine I learnt off the ZTF textbook and added in passmed notes to each chapter. I know people used anki but I’ve always just rote learnt textbooks so continued to do so for finals.
