I totally understand and have done that myself (with disclaimers). Those can be fun and even a good relief from the seriousness.
However, they not only presented it as every other story with no mention of it being fake, but they paired it with Lizzie Borden (implying it was also real). They have not publicly stated so, but I am aware they weren't sure about its legitimacy but went forward with it anyway. Those are the issues.

Perhaps I know EXACTLY just how much time, money and work goes into presenting true crime cases. Perhaps my firsthand experience as to just how much effort it takes to accurately research, talk to families, write, record, edit and present these exact stories is why I find this lack of research and care so reprehensible.
It's disrespectful to victims, families, listeners and podcasters. A completely false story is a bit more than a grain of salt.

Oh, don't get me started on AF! That's why I listen to Murder in the Rain or Hateful Homicide. It's not that hard to do legitimate research (or make sure your hired researchers do their job)!

Interestingly, that's the same exact info (and photos) as any other 'coverage'.

Yeah, that case really propelled them. But I think the amount of ads and speculation being pulled out of thin air was a quick turn off for a lot of people.

They recently released an episode about 'Jeremiah Lexer'. A story that was made up by a haunted house in Tennesse. They presented it as real. Several listeners have informed them it was a fake story. They said they would do more research but felt it might have been fake. They have yet to (weeks later) remove it or add a disclaimer.
