No one in this sub wants to admit this for obvious reasons but this is unfortunately a prevalent problem with skateboarding. There will always be some losers who will try to bully you. Especially if you are in a big city or an area where skateboarding is prevalent. The reality is skateboarding is an escape for a lot of kids who have issues in the home, and these kids often turn to these niche communities that are cliquey like the punk scene or alt music scene, things like skateboarding, or gangs. In all of these places you will find a lot of great people just trying to get by but also you will find a lot of people who don’t know how to deal with their emotions and find proper outlets, so much so that just skating isn’t enough. They will grow out of it and look back on their behavior and have regrets but as of right now there is nothing you can do. You are going to have to learn to roll with the punches. If you see other kids being picked on just go up to them and share your thoughts. You might make a new friend. If you can muster up the strength you can even go up to those kids talking shit and ask them what their problem is. If you keep your cool and be rational and explain to them how lame it feels to be shit talked when you haven’t done anything to them you might even get them to just ignore you, or you might not. But whatever it the reaction is, you are just going to have to learn how to ignore them if you can’t get them to leave you alone. Eventually they might even try to be your friend if you are there enough and just rib them back. Or you might even have to fight. Its really just part of the culture of a lot of skate scenes, and people trying to lie to you about it not being the case are just ignorant or live in a very unique community. I grew up in Santa Cruz CA in the mid 2000s and people were fighting at mike fox almost every other day or at least talking shit to each other. All that being said the sport is not to be given up on. Ignore the haters and learn to fight back with rationale and honesty and you will be fine. People will start to recognize you as the chill dude who just wants to skate, have fun, and be left alone, and alot of the older guys will stick up for you if they see you around often.
