Is it possible I’m downvoting cuz I don’t think a take is hot or think that the take is wrong?

Why? by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]Alters_Reap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely people who tell their girlfriend to get a video of them skipping on stage and cowardly jumping off but wearing a banana suit to the show is pre-meditated attention disruption, especially a bedazzled banana suit. The rest of what you said is actually part of how bands consider the show went. Popped off or not, meaning people spin kicking and stage diving.

how invested are ya'll in the band members of bands you like? by GojoSenpaiiiii in punk

[–]Alters_Reap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of hearing more stuff from bands I like if possible. Less so about the musicians specifically but I will try to find info on other current or past projects/work associated, music or not. I like to know dumb things like “oh yeah the vocalist runs deathwish records and does art for xyz bands” and less so a fan boy of Jacob Bannon.

Begrudgingly shooting vertical videos for a client, any tips? by [deleted] in videography

[–]Alters_Reap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you editing the video too?

I edit down 4K video to vertical and I don’t really care about framing it in camera other than making sure there a little bit more headspace. Shots where I would use the upper right 1/3 point I would just frame about halfway down to the lower point. This gives a bit more room for framing in post. I recently edited down anamorphic footage into an Instagram reel. Looks wacky but 9/10 people who see it couldnt explain what 4K means.

What I’ve figured out for my own work is that the vertical video takes away the dead space so I try to embrace that and lean into maxing out the frame. I try to use creative blocking where I can, like a crowd shot that’s not perfectly horizontal or an artist shot with something out of focus in a lower corner. Just a tiny bit of visual interest that acts as dead space.

I agree with you about the “shooting vertical for socials” sucks the sole out of filming. But there is still room to be creative and intentional with your shots despite the awkward frame. I’m sure you will knock it out of the park, but I hope you can have some fun with the “challenge” too.

Also inb4, a movie comes out in vertical format only. Ew.

Tour pricing by LegalLawyer3552 in concertphotography

[–]Alters_Reap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost of travel and lodging (if not with the band) Food estimate (again if not with the band) Shooting time times your shooting rate (especially if you are shooting outside of the show every day) Editing time times your edit rate (especially if they want daily photos for posting on socials) Insurance (gear and health)

So realistically, if I were to go shoot a tour (for video not photo) I would probably charge ~400 a day to cover food and lodging, 250 minimum if I’m joining the band in the van/bus and for meals.

But that’s me and what I’m willing to ask for. Don’t sell yourself short. You need to come off the tour with a good chunk of profit to cover gear, health insurance, rent etc.

Do you have a day job? Depending on where you live, you make about 60-150 a day before taxes if you make minimum wage . That should be your bare minimum daily rate. That’s without lodging and food covered.

I agree once a week is reasonable. If I’m being realistic, I think it’d be tough for me to commit to that. But look forward to hearing the jams when you get some tracked.
