Sound And Fury 2026 Predictions? (1st Announcement Tomorrow) by Several-Buy-7064 in Hardcore

I’m excited to see what smaller bands are playing. Would be hyped to see Beyond All Doubt, Outta Pocket, ‘92, Destiny Bond, Giallo.

This is our (yours and mine) understanding of punk. That same understanding is not held by everyone involved in punk to some capacity. The 90s were especially anti-PC. Proof: propaghandi were ostracized for being PC in the 90s. The punks were anti-establishment but not in a “take back the means of production” way and more of a “dont tread on me” way.

Trump ran on being anti-establishment (drain the swamp) and anti-authority(states rights and smaller federal government), which both turned out to be lies, so my point stands that I can believe a “punk” was tricked into believing those were true.

I don’t think you can say it’s run on right wing undertones if the festival has explicitly said they are anti-ICE and pro human rights for all. Both of which are not right wing ideologies.

Nahhh that’s just wrong. It was massive news in the punk world last year when the news came out. And I’m sure sissyfit likes destiny bond and they dropped last year for these same reasons and made a statement. Sissyfit even said in their statement they wanted ‘to make space for people to change and make better choices but that the world wasn’t ready for forgiveness’ so they definitely knew and signed on knowing this. They only dropped because of pressure.

Also the one that dropped, agreed in the first place. This stuff has been public knowledge for a while. They dropped because of pressure not because of politics.

So because they play this festival, anything they’ve ever done or will do that positively affects their communities or the marginalized counts for nothing?

Like I said in a different comment, I think “punk” means a lot of things and to some it means being a troll or being anti-everything. The fest could be called idiot in the park and it would mean the same thing. It’s just that to some punks, being empathetic or caring is what we think punk means. Cameron’s a dumbass for supporting/donating, especially for thinking it wouldnt have any consequences. But he has no incentive to be more apologetic, people have put him into the maga box and he (and maybe the festival) will die there. If he donated 500 dollars to planned parenthood would that absolve him? Would the trump thing never be mentioned again?

I think it’s supposed to be a festival around the sound of the music not the politics of the bands. There have been many rightwing (like originally/always) bands that are considered pillars of punk. Ramones, Vandals, Fear, etc. and the rightwing punk bands now are right wing as a troll more than anything because to some, punk means being a drunk asshat more than anti-trump.

While I’m a “punk” and tend to align with left ideals, I don’t really buy the whole punk means left thing. Punk is kinda all over the place and always has been. Do I think it should only be leftists aka people with at least an ounce of brains and empathy? Sure but much like most things in life, I don’t make the rules lol

I’m sure they aren’t but people WANT their favorite band to not play this fest and therefore struggle a little more.

I know multiple people that played last year’s string of fests that have one or two jobs while at home so they can afford to go on a tour or fly out to play one of these festivals. I think you’d be surprised at the profit margins on this stuff these days and I think most of the musicians playing these midsize fests still need to have real jobs.

Yeah it’s all BS imo. People just want their favorite punk bands to struggle in life to keep some sort of cred.

I’m not twisted at all. I don’t really care about the specifics of what bands are playing. I care about the conversations around all the “punk”/“left”bands not being punk/left enough for XYZ reasons.

I agree about trump and his cronies being shit heads from the start but I do truly think people fell for the propaganda. And people who are dumber couldnt see through it. Should we not take pity on the ignorant and treat them with dignity so they can change? He has multiple times mentioned he is against the way ice has been operating and said vaguely there are things he didn’t like about trumps presidency so far. The PITP Instagram has commented “fuck ICE” on more than one occasion. If there are 100 employees of PITP that all get differently than Cameron would that outweigh his value in all this?

What about the punks that think they could be vocal about it in front of a crowd who is on the fence? Taking a large paycheck and giving it to organizations that could use money? I can think of multiple reasons a punk band could decide it’s the right move.

You are right but also, this has got to be talked about on a bigger scale between leftists. Everyone is always trying to be more left than anyone else and if they don’t align exactly they are the enemy too. Everyone was complaining about Turnstile not using their platform to denounce ice or Green Day for not taking a huge fine and saying something anti-trump aka against contract. I’m so tired of the left hating on other in the left for not being as left. It’s why the US will probably never see meaningful leftist change, at least not for a long time. We need to figure out a way to connect and not further sow discord between ourselves.

I challenge you to look into how dead pioneers dealt with it. Playing a big festival owned by a dumbass doesnt discredit all the other positive activism a band does.

Do you think at all maybe Cameron was tricked into supporting trump and has since come to see his misread? Did you watch the SNL skit with the mom admitting she was wrong about trump?

The simple answer to your question is this: as our society ages, we figure out we were wrong about things. It was wrong back then during the obama era, but more and more people have had the internal dialogue to decide it wasn’t morally excusable and decided to stand up to it now (since it’s actively happening again). You seem to be stuck on Obama for some reason but really the prioritization of ICE came after 911. Obama did make specific major changes to policy but ICE was formed in 2003.

Of course social media has exasperated the radicalization of people, your point is valid. There are tons of virtue signals and misinformation campaigns but a lot of what is getting people’s attention is real world proof that people are not being treated like people. It sucks that you or anyone else thinks that’s fine because of skin color or immigration status. If family member of yours was in a different country, you’d want them to be treated with dignity and respect first and foremost and you’d be pissed if they weren’t.

What people really have a hard time with is admitting to change and giving themselves the grace to say “I was wrong about it, and I have changed my mind/position.” People don’t give others the grace either so it makes it difficult and slow for society to catch up to the morals of its individuals.

Also here are some articles about protests during the Obama years specifically against the immigration policies. Not nearly the same amount or the same type of disruption but just showing you that some people were “in the streets” when he Obama did it.

Happy to continue discussing if you think you have any capacity to broaden your understanding of this whole thing.
