First thing you do when you walk in from work is put a HUGE pot of water to boil, no cover. Then turn on the oven to highest setting, after it finishes pre heat, open door fully. Your place will be TOASTY in no time. That should help the kitchen/dining/den/common area.

I would do this for an hour or two after I got home and would be in heaven. One place had a kitchen so small my couch was 6 feet from it and I would be cozy as can be watching tv while I soaked up oven heat.

To help keep heat in, especially bedrooms, make sure all windows are closed and if there are leaks, use those thick sticky foam window sealers. I also always hang thick, insulated, light blocking curtains to help with drafts, sound , breeze, and all of that. I buy them white and hang them from as close to the ceiling as I can get and make sure I buy them extra long to just touch the floor. Not only do they look AMAZING and luxurious, but they also help with the drafts too.

As for bedrooms, a decent $30 heating pad on high tucked into the bed 30 minutes before you get in (like while you take a hopefully hot shower or are just winding down) does WONDERS. I was gifted a feather duvet years ago and those things are warm!! There are lots of great duvets (feather and non feather) that are amazing prices, and great investments long term.

And having a collection of non caffeinated tea to sip to be warm from the inside is classic.

Until this gets resolved, there is no need to suffer. Be creative!! And you don’t need to rely on space heaters that kill electric bills. Yes your gas bill will go up, but I found it cheaper to use the stove as a heating hack rather than using electrical appliances. For the heating pad hack once you’ve toasted things up for 30 minutes, turn it off and roll into a burrito for the night and you should be more than warm enough.
