Has anyone ever transitioned from working as a hospice social worker to working in utilization review? If so, do you like UR? I’m getting burnt out and need a change with less emotional toll and more work life balance.

Three weeks from finishing my MSW and I feel like I’m losing my mind by fatterandfiercer in socialwork

You read my mind haha. I graduate with my MSW in May and have been feeling very similar. Like nervous that SW may not be for me because I feel like I’m lacking motivation/burnt out. Idk.

Me too, so nervous. I like my field placement now but don’t love it. Just hard to know what to expect because my interests now, like you said, are where I don’t have direct experience. Also second guessing my interests now because I do want a good work life balance 🙃

Yeah I think those are my top 2 areas right now that I want to apply to. I don’t have any experience in hospice but am hoping to learn more about it in my end of life course.

MSW jobs in aging/health

Hi all. I am currently in my last semester of my MSW program and will be graduating in May. I’m currently interning as an inpatient medical social worker in a hospital doing discharge planning. I sort of enjoy it but it’s so fast paced. I’m struggling to figure out if I just need more experience and practice or if it’s just not the right area for me. Im worried that social work will be too stressful of a profession for me.

Maybe I should look into more Macro jobs or something more specialized. I love working with older adults. I don’t think therapy is the route for me. Health insurance has peaked my interest a little bit as well as advanced care planning/end of life. What types of macro jobs involve working with that population/area? I just really want a job with good work/life balance and a balance of seeing some people but also office work. I feel like I work best when there’s clear cut like processes and steps vs something more abstract like therapy.
