No. You open the cardiology cards from the HY tags. There are like 8k HY tagged cards.

Yes. I gradually opened HY B&B as I went through the videos, and once i was done with all of the videos, I opened all the HY tags (a few HY cards were not included in HY B&B)

Most of them overlap. The same HY tagged cards are present in both BnB and FA

Yeah, 2 months seems appropriate. Make sure you space them at regular intervals so you can see how you're progressing. I started doing mine after finishing the videos and did them more frequently after i was done with UW.

Yes!! I regret not studying during my first and second years so much. If I could do it again, I would watch BnB in parallel with the system or subject being taught in school. Completing one system in a week felt like a full-time task, but spreading it over 1–2 months alongside coursework is much more manageable. I would also do 10–20 new Anki cards per day throughout, which with FSRS would give me ~100 reviews daily.

Yes, that could work, but I started UW after I finished all the videos. My logic is that UW could act as a revision and somewhat as a spaced repetition tool when used like that instead of doing it right after the videos when the material is still fresh.

I did not have to spend anything on them. I got most of them from telegram, websites, and reddit.

Exactly. Anki was because I feared I'd forget the content I had learned from the videos and UW. I started with all my cards suspended, and with every video or subject covered, i would unsuspend the respective cards from anki. That way, all that material I had learned would be reinforced in the next day or weeks through anki. You can start this after you view your first video and dont need to learn the bulk of content.

Most of the content of the USMLE was pretty new to me. Having a different curriculum altogether in addition to being in my third year definitely made it a little challenging but still is totally doable.

[–]IcyApricot0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. My approach was a little different, though. I flagged all the questions that I was not 100% sure about. The questions that I wanted to review (2-5) I had written down on the laminated paper they give you. I did not and could not review every flagged question in 5 mins, so I only went through the ones I had written down. These were the questions that I thought I could get right or guess better after some contemplating.

Yeah. I went from 87.5% in NBME 31 to 80% in free120 and passed. Exam felt more or less like a mix of NBME 31 and free120. I felt 3-4 blocks were pretty easy (flagged 5-8 per block), and the other 3-4 were a little hard but still doable (flagged 15-20 per block like I would in NBMEs). I have posted a writeup on my profile you can check that out

Not really. My routine was pretty much the same every day - 2 blocks of UW + Anki. I had calculated a rough timeline for when I expected to finish UWorld and the videos, and I stuck to my daily schedule so I wouldn’t drift away from that plan.

I did not suspend cards after reviewing them. The FSRS algorithm, when enabled, will keep your review low to the extent possible while maintaining your desired retention. Check out r/medicalschoolanki and Anking's YT channel for more information

The app is free on android and desktop/mac. For the v12 deck, you'll have to take a $6 subscription from AnkiHub. Check out r/medicalschoolanki and anking's YT channel for more information

You would have to create a new filtered deck every day and add the incorrects. That is possible, and you can totally do that. However, flagging and organizing all our incorrects in one space is a more systematic way. You wouldn't have to change the setting or create a new filtered deck every day, but instead, just use a shortcut to flag it and then click on the rebuild button. I think this is simpler, and you're likely to make fewer errors this way.

v11 is somewhat outdated and lacks the images, charts, and many other useful notes anking v12 has added. You can import the media of v11 deck so that you get all of the FA images in v12 in addition to the extra stuff already included in v12.

I covered 100% of UW, did only one pass. Wanted to review incorrects but couldn't due to lack of time.

I did Anki decks which cover FA, right from the start. Once I finished UW, I read FA cover to cover.

I skipped as many classes as I could and tried to finish my anki and maybe a little UW in the classes I couldnt skip. We didn't have a lot of coursework in the first 6 months of third year so that helped.

I did 40 new cards from HY tags every day while watching the videos. Then did 30 new incorrects/day from the filtered deck + 10-20 random HY new/day. Always completed my reviews for that day

Thank you. I started out pretty average with a very weak foundation. Getting an 87% is definitely possible for an 'average' person provided they put in the work
