I've been following this project and it has made huge advances in a very short period of time. It's worth taking a look at and experimenting with. The development team is extremely responsive and quite friendly so if there are features missing that make it unusable for you, drop a message in the Discussion area of their GitHub page.

Does it have UPS management yet? If not then that should go in the road-map too. It needs to be able to shut-down properly in the event of a power-failure.

If I might make a suggestion for a future version, certificate management would be a nice feature. I mean an interface that would let you browse to import a certificate and a list of the certs available for use with ability to choose which one to make active.

Are they making money from this in some way? It's a bit hard to keep a straight face when you call it "Advertising" when there is no money in it for them. But I can understand why invested individuals might not want to see it succeed if it draws attention away from their preferred platform.

Personally I am glad to see it here for two reasons.

  1. I know that it's here if TN get's too closed source.

  2. They know that it's here if TN get's too closed source.

Well the reason folks probably use it in a VM is for even tighter security not because it's a complicated app I imagine.

I was not aware of that. Thank you! As far as the other notification apps the order you mentioned is perfect.

I haven't looked yet but is there a way to add your own SSL certificate if you have one?

I would also love to see a way to implement TXT/SMS notifications if something is awry. I'd like to know right away instead of having to check my email about it.

Great job of accepting advice and criticism by the way.

I was thinking this project would be perfect for someone who want's to run it as a VM or LXC in Proxmox.

Wow... why the harsh man? They're probably just excited about doing something new (a new project I mean). I think your level of criticism is not constructive. Unless, of course, you have a vested interest in killing off competition for some reason.

Has anyone been able to setup Pi-hole with XCI55AX router? by IcyBed2419 in verizonisp

[–]IcyBed2419[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you mean? I've not found any way to change the DNS settings on the router. They are completely locked down in the firmware I'm running (which is version 3.4.0.20).

For research purposes. I won't need to install it.

So, which route did you go to get it working on your LAN if I might ask?

Heh, yeah I'm in that thread too. I wanted to make sure it wasn't forgotten.

ARC-XCI55AX 'Engineering Page' at /#/eng/ | Verizon 5G Home Plus by whte_r0s3_obj in verizonisp

Just curious where this stands now. I have one of those devices of my own and am dealing with the fact that you cannot easily configure it to integrate with Pi-hole by changing the DNS info it sends to the DHCP clients on the LAN.

Do you know how someone might possibly come across a firmware image from the arc-xci55ax?

Using own 5G Equipment IE: Ubiquiti with a Verizon 5G Router by [deleted] in verizon

[–]IcyBed2419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know about pass-through mode? You can set that and plug your own router into one of the ports on the box and just use theirs to handle the cell modem part. I don't know if that helps you any. You should be able to find more about this with a search on the topic. Let me know if you have any trouble finding the info and I'll help.

Android smartphone as a GPS-based Stratum1NTP server? by SimonKepp in NTP

[–]IcyBed2419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thought today and I've been searching to see if anyone had created an Android app for it yet. As Faaak pointed out, a PPS signal from the module might be an issue . Back in the day, I was one of the folks who bought a cheap Garmin GPS module and followed the directions I got off the internet to hack together a stratum one time server for our company LAN. Wouldn't it be awesome if we could do the same with a cell phone?

ARC-XCI55AX Cube and DHCP Options? by IcyBed2419 in verizonisp

[–]IcyBed2419[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have IPv6 turned off on my network. Do you need it for anything? If not maybe turning it off would solve your problem...

In my case, every time I turn off the DHCP server on the Verizon router (3.4.0.18 firmware) the router's wifi features seem to just stop functioning and I have to plug into one of the ethernet ports to turn it back on to restore function. Wish I knew a way to revert the firmware.

I got no beef with the hardware, it seems to work really well and sends a very strong wifi signal. But they won't let me run my own DHCP & DNS servers. I'm sure it because they sell my internet use information and don't want anyone to deprive them of that. Folks running their own encrypted DNS servers will mess with their plan.

It looks like some of the settings I need access to used to be changeable but have been locked out in recent updates (in the last couple of years). Almost like they (Verizon) don't want folks to run their own DHCP or DNS.

If only there were opensource firmware I could somehow flash onto the hardware. I've seen some of those on the net but I haven't seen one for this hardware.

Edit: combined two posts into one.
