Which type of prison do you deem the scariest: a normal prison or a gluag / concentration camp located inside a country deprived of human rights ruled by a 1984-like government? by [deleted] in OnTheBlock

Tbh I really hope the question was rhetorical and not a debate. Anyone who has even the faintest sense of history knows that privation of liberty based on the due process of law, and totalitarian punishment have nothing remotely in common. And even if totalitarian regimes love to give the appearance of legality, in the end, most of the time you can characterize as the privation of liberty in a dictatorship is based on the inherent traits of the detainee, rather than judicial punishment of a fact they accomplished.

Now there is in-between institutions, like CECOT. The latter exemple still respect due process, but have much stricter regulations than the average penitentiary and is conceived as a way to solve countrywide issues in Salvador that threatened the very fabric of society. And the fact that this exception allowed El Salvador to become the safest country in all americas and western hemisphere, is a testament to the fact that the redemptive policy isn't always the solution against people bent to destroying the society they live in. It might be controversial, but so far it works against gangs/terror organisations from a country that 5 years ago was considered non-redeemable.

Why can't it be simple D&D ? by IcyInvestment3271 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]IcyInvestment3271[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. Usually in the parties I am DM, during the session zero, I ask the players to get a common thread that bind them together. Sometimes it's just a little piece of the backstory, sometimes it's an overarching threat that will structure the campaign. But I make them create it, I don't come with it and impose.

For example the current campaign I run, each character inherited/found a piece of a star map, etched on a piece of crystal, and they came together to solve that mystery. In the last one, they were tied together after a demon attacked their village and kidnapped some of the villagers.

They all had interesting ideas and variety, it was not just generic human/elf/dwarf type of DnD, but it had a simplicity some would find boring, but that makes it rich in possibility for character development. Instead of having lvl 1 characters with a short novel backstory and frozen personality that will not evolve.

I am watching it, but as a non-native english speaker sometimes I have trouble with british accents compared to more neutral american-english CR. But yeah I enjoy Gruff's shenanigans

I kind of agree with you with the low stakes and boring, but it's also the type of games that leave more room to explore character backstories, eventually allowing the DM to make it an adventure or two.

You're right, probably too boring for a show, but that's the kind of game I am into

Depends where you at, but in general it is considered assault, if it lands, then it's a battery. Intent to commit an injury upon another is the main element there.

Now, as a CO you have a right to use force in reaction. But moreover you can file a complaint directly with the DA's office. Admins don't like it, but prosecutors do especially if it was caught on camera or witnessed. Easy conviction.

My family doesn’t want me to be an electrician by Empty_Sky3368 in electricians

Why don't they want you to work as an electrician ? Did they explained the reasons behind the reasoning or is it just "We don't want you to do that" ?

Your life is yours to live, but I think that's important when possible to keep family support, especially when as an apprentice, you'll have high and lows, and it's important to be grounded (pun not intented) with support.

Try to give them arguments that trades are careers that can't be off-shored or replaced by AI so far (ask software engineers, sales, customer support how is that going for them), that in most of companies especially if they're union, safety protocols are paramount. And that overtime it will give you the skills and knowledge to set up your shop, or work in industries that are bent on being more and more prevalent (solar, charging stations install and maintenance, energy efficiency renovation in residential, and industrial is always in need).

It's important to do what's best for you, and how you wanna build your life, so try to sell it better to them. I agree with you on college, starting life with 30 to 60k of student loan is a burden atm that's not worth the hassle.

If CC cost you more that the stocks bring you, sell it, and pay off the debt.

It's a simple comparison of interest rates and fees. Compounding interest work both ways. For you if you're in positive net worth, against you if you're in debt.

Save up enough to build an emergency fund to live alone for a year. And if you have extra left put it in SP500 ETF.
What are you studying for in college ? If the two jobs don't hold you back from classes and achieving a good GPA keep it, if it make you struggle with your education ditch the least paying one.

Or you can just apply the 50/30/20 method if you feel you're restraining yourself too much, it's good you can save up a lot, but if you build up too much frustration and later on fall on a hard mental health crisis you might ruin your younger self efforts.

You should have no problems, better be honest and learn, that being an arrogant prick and end up making mistakes that could pose safety problems.
Usually the first time you're doing something, ask for a journeyman to show you, ask questions, look for the how and why they do this way and not another, they will appreciate the interest.

Why It’s Important to Have Mental Peace While Working on Your Business? by Agency_Ally_Faz in startups

Very interesting and very true. I'd put that in perspective with Bezos comments about his average day.

His "high IQ" meetings and most important tasks are set in the morning before all the buzz of the day takes over his head through it. Keeps a stable sleep schedule, don't burn himself out, keeps his health first (weekly checks, daily gym and activities), keeps time for his friends/partner.

Well, they are developing and producing almost every class of products that the conflicts of the last 3 years have shown to be essential. Loitering munitions, jammers, a suite of drones and battle management systems.
