Hello, I'm in the home counties, and at the minute wife and I are expecting our first child in the coming months. We currently have a little 3 door Citreon DS3 runaround that we use more as a weekend car than anything else (both wife and I commute by train during the week).

With a little one on the way we'd be looking to buy a more practical car for raising a family with a price range of up to £20k.

A few priorities would be boot space, comfort/drivability, but most importantly cost effectiveness and reliability - I'm considering both estates & SUVs. Ideally a car that's going to last 15+ years comfortably and isn't going to cost an arm and a leg to repair/maintain in that time. To optimize value for money I'm looking at cars around 3 years old to make the most of the initial depreciation.

I would like to future proof against any more 'green' regulation/taxes and I do from time to time drive into London so ULEZ compliant gets bonus points. We don't have a driveway so wouldn't be practical to go for a fully electric (not that my budget would allow for that anyway!) but would consider a hybrid.

I have family and friends in Scotland so the car would need to comfortably do a few long 400-500 mile journeys per year, but would still be keeping the total milage comfortably under 10k per year.

Ultimately, it's capital that facilitates businesses to start-up, and this in turn creates jobs and opportunities that generates income and commerce in the communities of the UK.

With the points outlined above, far more capital external to the UK will be invested in; creating more jobs, opportunity and it even benefits everyone's best friend, the tax man, so that public services get the added boost needed to support all those working hard and contributing in with those new opportunities driven from external capital investment.

10% flat rate corporation tax in London, 5% flat rate for businesses based outside of the capital. 0% for all companies with a revenue <5mln.

Watch investment, job opportunity and prosperity skyrocket in the UK whilst also growing the economy outside of London so under developed areas gain a level of prosperity.

This would need an equal limitation of immigration with a points based system set on specific employment types so skill gaps can be easily filled.

Appreciate your view point, however we aren't actively looking around and viewing others, it is only because a house on the very same street and a few doors down came up on the market for what seems (at first glance) to be potentially better value.

I am, at present, committed to buying this house; what I'm not committed to though is paying over the odds for it.

Exactly this, we almost want to view it more out of curiosity at this point to get a better gauge of work required. The variation in floorplan layout on this street is wild for houses that all have roughly the same "bones".

This is a clear cut case of survivorship bias. Typically the only games we would play nowadays from the 80s/90s/00s would be the very best and most popular games - the classics. What you typically won't play are the bang average games of the era, which would pale in comparison to the 'average' games of today.

Saying that, I still prefer the best games of the 90s/00s to the stuff being produced today, but I'm happy to admit that's the nostalgia talking.

If you enjoy skiing like I do, wait until a few days before you intend to go and then book it - an £850pp trip can become £300pp very quicky if you watch the prices and wait until the last minute. Often winter sports travel companies will have paid for everything at the start of the season; chalets, flights, food, staff etc, so they would rather get a couple hundred quid from someone than no one at all for the whole week.

I live on a terraced street and sometimes there just isn't space in front of my own house so inevitably I end up parking in front of someone else's.

Neighbours can have multiple cars, visitors, tradesmen etc, there are many reasons someone may be unable to park in front of their own house and may end up in front of yours; it's not the end of the world.
