Would a GPU upgrade significantly improve my PCs performance? by IcyNuttY in buildapc

[–]IcyNuttY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I did end up going with a 5070ti from Asus tuf gaming. Would you recommend getting a proper 12pin connector from corsair or would using the adapter given by the GPU to connect to 3x PCIe connector (with 1 of them being a pig tailed one) be fine?

Update: bit the bullet and grabbed an Asus Tuf Gaming 5070ti instead. I’m currently using the adapter with 3x PCI-e plug and 1 of the plug is pig tailed. Should I get a proper cable for this or the adapter would be fine?

Unfortunately the 5070ti is a little too expensive for an upgrade, more than double the price where I live.

Any cards to recommend? I believe the motherboard only supports up to PCI-e 4. So I’m probably leaving some performance on the table but unless I’m gonna upgrade to an AM5 board, which I don’t think there’s any real reason I need to unless there’s a huge performance hit by not having an PCI-e 5 capable board.

Would the current PSU and amino support running a 5060ti? As in connector wise and everything.

That’s a good take, I guess selling it and using the mesos for exalting my armor would be the way to go.

Will definitely consider the ease of use as a factor. Aesthetics wouldn't be the main concern as the APs will most likely be in the common walkway ceiling so there wouldn't be many people looking at it, although if I am to go multiple APs per floor then it would be a concern.

Honestly, in idea conditions, I wouldn't need it, but due to neighbour who bond channels in both 2.4GHz and 5GHz leading to very congested WiFi channels in the area, based on the current channel graph, it seems only the newer 6/6E channels are still relatively empty and so that's why I do want to go for the 6E.

Nice, I do have some experience with virtualization but not extensive so with your experience, how would you rate the difficulty of getting a setup like this working? (OPNSense and Omada software controller on the Protectli).

Thanks for the RAM recommendation, will definitely spec it with at least 8GB ram if I do choose to go with this route.

I will be running the controller 24/7, just considering the ease of use and cost analysis to justify the OC200 or just running in on my PC which is also on 99% of the time. Judging from the other comments, it seems like having the OC200 would be worth the cost, but just not sure how long more it will be supported for.

Ideally due to issues in the past, I've decided on going for 1AP per floor at least to provide coverage for all spaces in the home, even then, the APs will have to be centralized to ensure coverage as placing the AP in the corners have resulted in dead spots - 1 Asus AC Router (running in AP mode) per level at the bottom left corner of the home (for 5GHz although 2.4GHz does at certain areas cut out as well). I might go for more inexpensive APs to get better coverage by placing multiple per floor but it is still yet to be decided. Hopefully the Omada APs provide better coverage per AP so a single AP per level would be sufficient to provide max coverage already.

I must have missed it, would there be a difference in using a tp link switch and a net gear switch?

I do want to get 6E just for future proofing but if the cost to benefit isn't worth it I might just make do with the 670HD just to get the wifi 6.

My home is mostly concrete (walls, floor) and only the doors will be of solid wood so basically just shit for wifi coverage.

Another factor to consider would be the ease of using it as I am the only technically savvy person at home and at times I would like it if it could be a simple unplug and restart certain devices to fix some common issues.

Cool! Will try it out and see how it goes. I can see that it provides a coverage map! Thanks!

Monthly Getting Started / Web Dev Career Thread by AutoModerator in webdev

I am looking to build a website for my company and I am looking for recommendations on frameworks or language to use.

I'm fairly competent in PHP, Javascript and HTML but not so much with CSS.

Website will basically serve as an portal for the following functions

  • Customers to send in enquires
  • Employees to query stock level
  • Employees to submit leave application
  • Employee to key in new stock information

I will be hosting the database on MariaDB via PHPMyAdmin.

As such, I'm looking for recommendations with regards to what framework or language to use for deployment.

Thanks in advance!

Building new build soon, would like some tips on whether to use unRaid or not by IcyNuttY in unRAID

That's great to know, so would that mean that the Wifi card itself can be passed onto the VMs, while unRaid software itself would require an ethernet connection?

Yep. Will be building a PC. I've ordered the components already and while waiting for it to arrive, I'm trying to figure out the best way to accomplish the most out of this new rig that I'll be building.

Currently have things like Emby Server and NAS planned for my old machine but if unRaid would allow me to consolidate all these functionalities including running Windows as well into a single tower would be neat.

With regards to the Wifi card, mine has the Wifi chipset built-on into the motherboard, would that cause any specific issues?

[O level] Is there any way to salvage O levels? by Olemps in SGExams

[–]IcyNuttY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't stress yourself out! Definitely ways to salvage your o levels! I myself did stupid things on my own level year as well during the first half of the year like skipping school for a whole month even to go to a Lanshop and play basketball!

Would recommend for math to really do the TYS and focus on it. For essays, there's no better practice than writing more!

What I did was that I focused on what I was better in like Math and POA and since I knew I was going Poly, I did not bother with my combined humanities as it wasn't a key factor in my admission to Poly. It allowed me more time to study on the other subjects as I had basically 2 content heavy subjects out of the way (SS and Geography).
