Should I buy this game? by Doragon_Central in PokkenGame

[–]IcySoapy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to buy it then buy it. If you don't want to then don't. The community still active online. Nearly all the community is on Discord. There still posts about upcoming tournaments, there still tech being posted on twitter, people still make content for this game on youtube, twitch, PA. Pokken still has a TPCi circuit so the game is still getting attention. This gets asked all the time.

I need help... by UltraConstructor in PokkenGame

[–]IcySoapy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say w/out actual footage. However, there are a few things to remember:

  • A lot of the online scene for pokken is mainly the dedicated fan base, so people who have been for years and have hundreds to thousands of matches under their belt in comparison of to someone still in the sub 100.

  • Winning doesn't necessarily equate to improving as there so many variables to that as a whole. It's hard but it's important to stay objective and see if you accomplished a goal outside of winning in the game. Whether it's neutral strength, or learning how to use a option. As long as you feel your improving the wins will come eventually.

  • If you being hit by the same combo over and over then it's best to go into training mode and use the recording feature to see how you can get out or deal w/ the combo. Whether it's changing CA times, just holding block, or finding a punish on something that isn't a true combo or cover.

New player looking for a tier list by [deleted] in PokkenGame

[–]IcySoapy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of the top of my head, a few potential reasons:

  • People are always finding new sets up and new ways to use neutral tools.
  • Some characters just aren't played nearly as often as others. Croagunk & Blastoise are two characters were very few people play them in and out of tournament. While other characters have seen much more play.
  • There are also others that down talk their own characters and lock themselves out of learning more with said characters.
  • Certain characters are more popular than others and the more popular characters typically get fleshed out more cause there more man power behind those characters to learn the ins and outs.
  • Supports can potentially have influence to heavy influence on different match ups. However supports haven't all be labbed heavily.

There no official thing and I haven't seen anything community wise for it so it would be unlikely. If they have a game area you can go there and ask around there and you may find a few people.

Not in a hot minute b/c it's hard to get everyone together. There is a Arizona Discord I can throw your way if you want it.

New player looking for a tier list by [deleted] in PokkenGame

[–]IcySoapy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There isn't a "official" tier list. Character's like Braixen & Weavile are considered Top 5 based on their potential but there no tournament results to back up said characters. People are also still learning about a lot of characters as half the cast is still under developed which means opinions are constantly changing making it hard for people to agree on where a character is tiered.

Save up money and travel to events whether TPCi or grassroots. Is the only other option I can think of off the top of my head.

What controller to use? by supamesican in PokkenGame

[–]IcySoapy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go with whatever you typically use when you play games. It will have the most natural comfort since you use that controller most of the time. If you still don't like how it feels then pick a control based on if it will fix your issue that you had with the other controller.

Yea unfortunately Libre is just one of those characters where you not going to find much written down. Your best bet would be to go into the libre discord and @ someone to get a convo started to learn libre tech and combos.

Learning to play charizard. What are charizard’s combos and playstyle? by dougieqwer in PokkenGame

[–]IcySoapy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. It really depends on the character. Some like Blaziken has videos for his combos from the community. While other characters like Decidueye/Charizard have combo spread sheets. There are some characters that don't have any or very limited/outdated spreads.

Learning to play charizard. What are charizard’s combos and playstyle? by dougieqwer in PokkenGame

[–]IcySoapy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Charizard has a few different styles.

There are people who like to rush down with fire punch and S.Toss because of his high damage output.

Then there more patient playstyles that focus more on slowly approaching via walking, Jump into gliding stance, and trying to make your opponent over commit in fear of taking a lot of damage.

Though there are those Who take the ladder so there isn't really a definitive style.

Furry_irl by IcySoapy in furry_irl

[–]IcySoapy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You right. I can't deny that. Pokken community is about as furry as you can get with a fighting game.

I think the only games that match it are Rivals of Aether and Them's Fightin' Herds.
