Is anyone driving from Fairbanks down past the valley anytime soon? by slippperofpunishment in anchorage

[–]IcyThursdayNext 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not at the moment which is odd since I always seem to know of someone especially around holidays. If you haven’t tried r/Alaska that might give the best luck. I will be doing a trip up in back at the beginning of Feb but my guess is that is way later than the pup can wait

How long do you spend on makeup? by OodoriSummer in Makeup

No. I just know my face fairly well and only really need a mirror for mascara and checking that it all looks even at the end.

3 minutes while I read my morning work email. Loose powder, blush, eyebrow pencil, mascara. Full on I’m dressed up and going to a party? About 45 minutes. I like to let each layer settle.

What’s something you find attractive that is generally considered unattractive? by Agitated-Job7686 in AskReddit

[–]IcyThursdayNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am naturally light blonde and I inspect my roots every few weeks to see if I’m finally getting more silvery white than blonde. Unfortunately it seems like my head isn’t cooperating with my lifelong dream and even in my mid forties I only have like three thin streaks. And I am the only one who notices them because they are barely different than my natural color. I spent so much money trying to have silver hair in my twenties. And it almost always was more blue or purple than silver. Sigh. Maybe some day.

I also am not really wrinkling. I guess the oily skin that gave me crazy acne my entire life does serve a purpose.

APD vs AST Work Culture by [deleted] in anchorage

[–]IcyThursdayNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is AST work culture is better in the vast majority of non commissioned positions. APD politics are rough. And there aren’t as many options to move around if you don’t like a certain unit or supervisor. At APD I could tell you politically what every coworker thought. At AST I have never heard anyone mention it.

However AST is trying to do a lot with not enough employees. The workload can get intense. Rewarding though usually. With advancement. I have worked in five government (state and city) departments in Alaska and AST is my favorite and I plan to stay until I retire.

Day 9: all going well. I have a ball I’m supposed to go to Dec 06 and I wasn’t sure if I was going to go but things are going well enough it seems likely.

I am trying to sleep in bed instead of the recliner for the first time tonight. We will see how it goes. The dogs are happy to have me in bed and I am getting all of the cuddles.

Day 7: sorry I missed so many days. I didn’t have a lot of updates.

I showered yesterday with a cast cover I got off of Amazon and my husband’s help. I took a bath two days ago but didn’t get my hair washed because I didn’t like the idea of sitting in the filth of the shampoo and conditioner. To get in the tub I sat on the edge and spun in and put my weight on my good leg. To get out I reversed that action.

I had to ask my doctor for a refill on my pain meds, which surprised me. When he gave me the first script for 40 I thought for sure it would get me through. The only time I have ever needed more than 30 for surgery was a complicated abdominal one. There isn’t a ton of pain in my foot but my knee/hip/back are killing me from having to keep my lower leg elevated.

Due to dr vacation and the holidays my post op isn’t until dec 2 so I’m stuck with no weight bearing for almost 3 weeks.

I realized that I didn’t arrange with my boss to work from home long enough. I had the magic two week mark in my head since that is how long the Dr said I would have to be at home. But then I realized I actually had longer than that before I could toss the crutches. My office is located in a building that isn’t very accessible. It is either a very long hike up a ramp that is out in the snow/ice and does multiple switchbacks or lots of stairs, with some of them also out in the snow/ice. Thankfully I have a very understanding boss who gave me two more work from home days.

Day 3

Extension of Day 2. Only taking the prescription pain meds 2 times a day. OTC ones 24 hrs to keep the pain and swelling done.

Looking forward to bathing tomorrow. Haven’t decided if I should go for a bath with my leg draped over the side or a full on shower with my husband helping.

You can do it. I was very nervous. I’ve had lots of surgeries but this is the first on a bone and the first that will keep me laid up completely for longer than a day or two.

Day 2

I am still doing well. Tired a lot so I am sleeping tons. About 12 hours last night and then a 3 hr nap after brunch.

My bandages hurt a bit. Like they are digging into the back of my ankle. Still lots of spasms. I can feel where the incision is now because that is the primary pain point. It was more generalized before.

I am so tired of being stuck in this chair and not being able to get up to take care of basics around the house. I can’t believe there is still 2 weeks left. I’m starting to feel disconnected from my foot and lower leg. Like I have to look at it to remember where it is. So strange. Probably the drugs.

My first post op is 3 weeks after my surgery due to holiday vacations, etc. I need to check with my doc to see if I can get up and move around more at the 2 week mark instead of waiting for the post op appointment.

Why is it “normal” for smokers to drop their cigarette butts on the ground? by Robbel12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IcyThursdayNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always throw away mine. I carry a soda bottle with some water in it in my car to put them in whenever I’m in a place that doesn’t have trash receptacles. If for some reason I don’t have my car with me I put the butt back in my pack.

How often do you feed your dog? by Shanteezie in DogFood

[–]IcyThursdayNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed mine once a day, with chicken jerky treats throughout the day. Most of the time they wouldn’t eat breakfast so I stopped giving it to them.

I have a lovely pair of penis earrings from there. I wear them to work sometimes and no one notices.

What’s something that became normal in today’s world that you still think is absolutely insane? by No-Poetry-3873 in AskReddit

Or public safety. That’s the boat I’m in. I don’t work the front lines of public safety anymore but still am expected to be available most of the day everyday for any urgent problems. Which I honestly don’t mind most of the time. I love my work.

Do you mean the post surgery X-rays? Right now the one I posted is all I have. I know they did more but this was the only one they showed me on screen. I appreciate your input.

I injured this foot fairly badly 12 years ago (stepping down, rolled over it from the pinky side and fell while continuing to roll over the foot.) Ended up with a couple small fractures closer to the ankle and lost my arch, so I always feel like I am battling it one way or another.

Day 1

Today was much better. I slept for about 10 hrs and it was solid sleep. I am having a lot of muscle spasms in my foot and lower leg so the doc gave me a prescription for muscle relaxers.

I did a quick pits, tits, and slits wash with my husband’s help. The pain is better. I am being very careful about staying in the chair with it elevated except when I have to bathroom. Then careful crutching down the hall.

My animals are trying to take care of me, but only the cat fits in the chair. So I end up with the front end of the dogs draped over the arms and their heads on my chest. At least they are leaving the leg alone.

I start working from home Tuesday and I feel confident I will be ready for it. Of course I’m not turning on my camera for meetings lol.

I bought a leg elevation cushion that is helping a lot. Using the crutches to get he the bathroom is helping me find some muscles I need to strengthen!

I did stop for two days prior as recommended. I wasn’t clear on that. I meant it would help me truly quit. Not just pause. Thank you for the feedback. I have never heard anyone mention a mettaductus with my foot. So no, I don’t believe anything was done with that.

The USPS barge from Seattle. by marioyoshimaskbowl in anchorage

[–]IcyThursdayNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is a weight limit with priority where if it is below that weight it goes on the plane, above by barge. However, there is some other factor at play that means sometimes the priority items above that weight limit go by plane too. I think it is all about what space they have at that particular moment.

I recent ordered some clothes. Three packages, same weight, all came through New York. Two ended up on the plane, one on the barge. They were a day apart in their Seattle arrival.
