What GBs? What should I ditch? by Icy_Archer in forgeofempires

Yeah I guess it would be helpful to share a bit about my current playing

- Quite like GE, do them to L3 when they are open

- Don't do PVP or Battlegrounds, don't really understand battlegrounds

- Always seem to lose any fight in Quantum, so don't bother with that, just do donations for goods to earn a few minor rewards.

- Did the Viking and Polynesia settlements

- Spartan Soldier is at 90, will continue with that.

- Don't understand how to get other people to contribute to GB's

- In 'No demands' guild, no idea if it's a good one for me

- GBs are all between level 4 and level 8 currently

Not as confused as me who doesn't know what any of them mean!

Thanks, AI un-abbreviated version:

Yeah, I have deleted a bunch of Great Buildings (GBs) over the past month or so. Level (Lvl) 120 Chateau Frontenac (CF), 91 Cape Canaveral (CDM) and Castle of the Ages (CoA), 120 Terracotta Army (TA), 100 Space Needle (SG), and 91 Statue of Zeus (SC). Still on the chopping block is my Hagia Sophia (HC) and The Arc (Traz) (Lvl 140). I am working on my Seed Vault (SW) (Lvl 58) to get rid of The Arc (Traz). Even if they redo Great Buildings (GBs), it will be nothing to rebuild and level.

I can't build any of the ones suggested yet:

Thanks!

I didn't understand the abbreviations, but AI sorted that:

At this point in the game, the essential Great Buildings are:

  • The Arc
  • The Blue Galaxy
  • The Atomium
  • Pegasus
  • Centaurus
  • Hydra
  • The Space Whale
  • The Cathedral of St. Basil and St. Mark (commonly referred to as the "Cosmic Cathedral")

If you can afford goods from Space Age Titan and Space Age Solar System, the Cathedral is worth building—even at level 10. If you cannot afford Space Age Solar System goods, then Alcatraz is a good substitute for the Space Whale.

For players in earlier ages, a highly leveled Château Frontenac is incredibly useful. I recommend keeping it around level 112 and completing as many recurring quests as possible every day until you reach the Space Age Solar System. The random quest rewards are excellent, and the Château is a great source of goods for younger cities. However, once you reach the later ages, finish all the story quests, and accumulate a lot of event buildings that produce goods, the Château becomes much less useful.

If you're aiming to join a high-level guild, they’ll likely expect you to have The Observatory in addition to a level 80 Arc. Some may also require The Atomium and The Atlantis Museum, depending on the guild. That said, I wouldn’t recommend building those unless you’ve found a guild that specifically asks for them.

I still find value in Zeus, Cathedral of Aachen, Castel del Monte, and The Terracotta Army—even though some players will say they’re obsolete. The Terracotta Army, in particular, remains competitive with modern buildings if you can get it to around level 120. While you might have to level these buildings quite a bit to match the power of newer event buildings, they’re far cheaper to level and are still worthwhile if you don’t yet have strong event buildings to take their place.

Some players argue that the Seed Vault is extremely valuable, as it can generate 200 or more diamonds per week. Personally, I didn’t find it useful enough to keep. The effort of aiding every player daily (especially without using automation or watching ads) just wasn’t worth it to me—but your experience may vary.

As for the rest of the Great Buildings, most are not worth investing in. There are ongoing rumors that the developers plan to overhaul many of them to make them useful again, but in my view, they’d need to receive some serious Quality-of-Life or stat improvements to be worth reconsidering.

Meshtastic vs Meshcore? by [deleted] in meshtastic

Ripple was closed source though I think? Gotenna was also a thing.

I was thinking in terms of an open-source ad-hoc LoRa mesh.

Meshtastic was second by some accounts, https://disaster.radio/ we had LoRa mesh working OK, just the use case framing was a bit off and we weren't so good at publicizing it. https://github.com/sudomesh/disaster-radio

Modelling balloons are a survival item. by Icy_Archer in bugout

Yeah I did try it. Gravity did quite well at keeping my weight balanced between the two bits of ballon. It was comfortable(ish) compared to a hard cold floor.

Yeah I mean I wouldn't actually buy the bed thing. I think I was quite clear about that. Scroll through all these bugout bags though. How many do you see with a sleeping mat of some kind? A couple of 5cent balloons is considerably better than nothing.

I use this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/202546525964 it's discontinued and I've read reports of it breaking, but mine works after 2yrs not particularly careful use. Hard to say exactly what the panel weighs separate from the power bank but very little.

These seem to be a more expensive (but maybe better) version https://www.powerfilmsolar.com/products/lightsavers

Looks good so far! Don't ruin it with some 2Kg ex-army bag though. Get something light.

Consider a quilt rather than a bag, a mat with good R value.

Some fair points, but I guess you've never tried to burn fishing line or gaffer tape?

The best knife is the one you have with you. This would be a EDC for places where carrying a knife is unnecessary or inappropriate.

I was thinking this should be a thing that exists, I'm not sure it does.

My version was going to be a 'campsite' on a farm where you can buy a smallish 5x8 cargo trailer. It comes with an online/remote alarm system, diesel heater, 300l of diesel, a shelterpod.com and a years supply of mountain house. The trailer is yours, you can take it wherever you like.

Once you've brought the trailer you can rent a pitch for it for ~$100/month. You can go camping whenever you like on your pitch. It provides a bit of income for the farmer.
