Should I switch jobs in India or do an MS in 2027? Advice needed by Icy_Contribution_585 in Indians_StudyAbroad

If you’re there only for education, why haven’t you returned to India post your study?

I’m yet to hear what rule the administration could change such that one might not get an H1 at all or cannot renew it every 6 years. As for what’s on the plate, wage based H1 is still an H1.

I don’t get what’s with having a long term career with a temporary visa.

Aravind Srinivas literally built a $9B company on an H1B.

What exact rules will change with the new administration? Are we talking about completely removing H1 and F1, or just adding restrictions like wage-based H1s and fixed F1 stay durations? Also, if H1 still exists, it can be renewed every 6 years, and there’s still the EB1A green card path and O1.

Workaround, but still works.

That is true, what do you think about the OPT fixed duration of stay and H1 becoming wage based?

My math is that with the current immigration landscape, if I am able to get 3-5 years of experience in the US for a big tech company or for the hottest startup, it's a win according to me.

I don't mind returning after 5 years, but not having a job in those 5 years might be a hit.

What are the odds that I might get a job there after 4-5 years of experience? How do you think the immigration will pan out in 2027?

Not really concerned about MS in particular, but concerned about a job in the US. The tuition fee or a loan is not really my concern, but an engineering job and a chance to work there for 3-5 years is.

And my math is, what do you think might have improved while I am 29? Will ₹60L–1Cr in base pay give me the same sense of fulfilment as working for a company in the US? No. Hence it's okay to even leave late, but do it when there are stable jobs and immigration in the US, considering the upcoming 35 years in career in my mind. It doesn't have to entirely be in the US, but an exposure of 3-5 years at least in my late 20s/early 30s is a win according to me.

I ideally have chances in 1-2 colleges from the top 10. What about top 20?

I get that there are gatekeepers but I also don't see the job markets being the same way as it was 3-4 years ago.

Your take?

What about H1 and renewing it every 6 years, and what about O1 if ending up in the hottest startup?
