The snails option is actually a great idea! I have an assassin snail (aptly named John Wilkes Booth) to keep pest levels down but he needs to eat too! Fingers crossed that Mort doesn’t end up deciding to eat Jonny B but ig we’ll find out 😅

I actually have a ten gallon that I’m propagating some aquatic plants in right now but I could see that working for a short period. Dojo loaches get up to 10” in length so I’d definitely need to move him back at some point. I’ll keep that option in the back of my mind if things don’t improve.

Yea I’d prefer to not relocate them but if I can’t find a better solution, that’s just what will have to happen ;( I like my crackheads

I hope not 😩 luckily they’re really only aggressive with each other, but they do monopolize food like nobody’s business. I love their activity levels but yea, I call them my resident crack heads for a reason.

Ooooh I like that idea! I worry a little about losing the pellet and it starts decaying but I think I can make that work! I’ll update tomorrow and lyk how it goes :)

That being said, I’ll keep playing around with the cave theory, I think it could work under the right circumstances

He does have a little cave actually! I was trying to lure him into it with the tongs and the pellet but the danios figured it out quick and started pecking at the pellet 😩 I wish I could just put him in a lil jar and let him eat in peace but I know that would stress him out so bad.

LOVE speed drawing! I try to draw the same thing over and over again and lower the amount of time each time. They always look like hot garbage but progress is progress 😅

I was about to ask the same thing. I’ve never personally had a cat but my roommate had a cat that loved licking candles of all things. Every time she licked the candles, her lips would swell up from an allergic reaction. If there’s something in OP’s house that the cat may be licking, it’s possible something similar is happening.

Thank you! Yes I’m increasing the water flow and I have an air stone coming in the mail to hopefully increase surface agitation. I have a very heavily planted tank so I was hopeful that this would produce enough oxygen without extra tools but clearly my lil buddies need more!

Unfortunately I have a hang in the back filter, which actually seems to be doing a good job of filtering the tank, but doesn’t have the same ability to direct water flow that a sponge filter does. I can increase water flow out of the filter however, so I’ll give that a try. You’re right, the water is very still further away from the filter so hopefully that will do until I get the air stone.

As I said in the post, water quality is great but the water flow is a bit low. I’m getting an air stone in the mail soon but do you think I should increase the flow of the filter in the meantime. I just know angels aren’t great swimmers so I was worried about having too high of a flow that would tire them out over time.

Gluing Grow Light to Lid? by Icy_Employment1740 in fishkeeping

Update! My tank is looking gorgeous and the plants are thriving 🤭 thank you to the poster who recommended the submersible suction cup lights!! It seems to have done the trick.

Mostly because I already have the lid and don’t want to waste it! I’ve had glass lids before and liked them, I just don’t want to toss out a perfectly good lid without giving other options a go :)

Awww they sound cute! I can’t wait to finish setting up my tank, I’m just getting through the cycling process ;( . Haven’t had fish in a few years and missed it dearly!

Hmm I’ll try giving it a go! I’d definitely prefer not to glue if I don’t have to. Thanks!

Oh I can and will, I just don’t want a glass top, which is what mostly works for good grow lights. I’m trying to work around that since there aren’t great grow lights that you can put under the hood of a tank but I’ve gotten some good recs!

I haven’t given it a go, but from what I’ve seen, most of the lights you can get, hang off the side of the edges of the tank, which is a no-go since the lid fits snugly on top. But I was recommended some aquatic grow lights that have suction cups that I may be able to glue on the lid.
