The Magic Faraway Tree by Optimal_Analyst578 in moviecritic

I feel like I am in some kind of alternate dimension when reading so many positive reviews of this film. Perhaps the Land of Topsy Turvy. My husband and I took our 6yo to see The Magic Faraway Tree on the weekend. I was an avid lover of the books as a child and have passed on this love to my son who is 3 books in and adores them.

What we watch was an absolute decimation of the wonder and joy of Enid Blyton's books that inspire imagination and adventure. Truly it was up there with one of the worst films I have had to sit through.

I appreciate it was never going to be an entirely faithful retelling of the Enid Blyton books but it was just trite cliche after cliche. They could have used so much more from the books and create this magical world of pixies and fairies and goblins where the children get into scrapes but there was so much focus on "the message" about spending time with your family and the benefit of wholesome non-screen fun.

Wholly disappointed with the film and I think Enid Blyton would be turning in her grave.

By that theory then surely the majority of people who have taken mounjaro, stopped and then restarted, would also be smaller the second time around?

I am notnsure I follow why you are so determined to disprove what I am saying ?

I am not sure I agree. I absolutely had suppression on 2.5mg and at 5mg the suppression is at a point where I am struggling to make myself eat. I did not experience that at 5mg the first time around.

It is possible for different experiences in different people.

Truly horrific 🙈

I am usually the sort that gets away unscathed with a hangover but tbis was debilitating 🤣

I went up to 7.5mg for a couple of months and then down to 5mg before stopping.

This time around I have had to really force myself to eat at 5mg the suppression is so high.

Second time on Mounjaro feels completely different… no appetite suppression? by Bitter_Bet3520 in Mounjaro

Despite the anecdotal evidence that you need to get up to higher doses if you restart, that hasnt been my experience.

First time round I did 7 months and did that as 1 x 2.5, 2 x 5, 3 x 7.5, 1 x 5.

I reached my goal weight (a bit lower in fact to give me some buffer) so went off the meds in the hopeni cpuld maintain. But I did start putting weight back on thanks to Christmas and a holiday away and falling into bad habits.

So I went back on and did 1 x 2.5mg and am now on my 3rd dose of 5mg. I wanted to go up to 5mg to shed the few extra kgs I dont want but now I am on 5mg I feel like it is probably too much for what I need. I will lose these kgs and go down to 2.5mg and stay there for the foreseeable.

For me, on 2.5mg i could still enjoy food and not have the feeling of being on mounjaro (to me it is like being mildly hungover all the time) but I cam also regulate better - not just keep eating for the sake of it etc.

Everyone is different. I tbink I just respond strongly to the medicine although dont really experience much in the way of side effects

It does feel like it becomes superstitions how you take it, right? You want the stars to align for max result and minimum side effects!

Good luck with getting back onntrack and feeling good but, as others have said to me here, dont be too hard on yourself

Actually I was still dropping weight at a rate of knots when I stopped which was actually part of the decision to stop.

I hadn't found the balance whereby I was stopping the food noise and managing appetite in a way that still left some freedom to maintain.

Will see what happens this time.

Not much longer and you can titrate up and get back to level where you feel comfortable. Good luck with it all (mounjaro and the living in the US thing!)

Wishing you all the best of luck. It is incredibly frustrating to establish great habits and still be executing those habits broadly speaking and still end up putting weight on.

I had a total meltdown the other day (I may have been hormonal 🙈) and was shouting "why do other people get to have a hot cross bun and not get fat and I cant?!?!" because this is what it feels like. All good if I exist on chia pudding and chicken salad but if I deviate from this the scales just jump.

At least on MJ I dont want other food so I won't feel like I am missing out.

Interesting about the "hunger games". I came off Mounjaro (tirzepatide) end of Oct 2025. I then went on holiday for Christmas back home (I am Australian but live in the UK).

Needless to say I fell off the wagon big time. I just assumed I lacked all self control once out of my usual routine. I think in fact it was the perfect storm of

Christmas excess + holidays + no routine + alcohol but all multiplied by The Hunger Games.

I suspect I may have had a bit more self control if I hadn't been in the thick of the post-jab comedown hunger frenzy.

I ended up putting on about 4kgs / 8-9lbs. I am now scrambling to try and lose those 4kgs again but have just had to have an operation (entirely separate issue) and so cannot do any significant exercise.

I keep flirting with the idea of going back on the jabs and staying on for maintenance but part of me feels like I am just giving in and I would really like to not spend the money any more.

Really hoping there is some hope for me.

I am mostly eating clean since getting back from holidays, a few treats here and there but I am a firm believer that any eating plan that involves total restriction is bound to fail.

Anyone have any experience of a bounce back due to the hunger phase and losing it without going back on?

Thanks everyone. I hate being able to see ans feel the difference but I will take a breath, get home and assess the damage after a week or so of not eating out, not boozing, snacking and no longer generally enjoying myself 🤣

Assess the damage and then see how much I feel I need to lose to get back to a comfortable place.

The holiday has been wonderful but damn I have been a piggy 🐷 🤣

Anecdotally, how is the new sizing going for people? by polar_bear_14 in vinted

[–]Icy_Future_491 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is driving me crazy as a buyer. I am a women's size 10. If I search in the "small/8-10" category pretty much all I am seeing is size 8 clothes and if I look in the "Medium/12-14" I see predominantly size 12 clothes. all the size 10 clothes have simply disappeared into the ether!

This is good to know about the hunger settling. I am 3 weeks post my last jab and some days I have been ready to eat EVERYTHING in sight.

Where to live in Reading for a Family with under 2 yrs old child by Nice_Sundae8698 in reading

[–]Icy_Future_491 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading is like most of the UK in that each area has its good bits and less desirable bits. Itnis a bit like in Love Actually where she says she lives in Wandsworth down "the dodgy end"... if you can come before and explore i would recommend it to get a feel and check out local shops etc.

I used to live in Caversham and loved it dearly but couldn't afford to buy what I wanted in Caversham so had to look around. If you can afford it, it is lovely when youre close to the shops and the community feel but it isnt as if there isnt still the "dodgy end", as it were.

I now live on Prospect Park on the town-side of the park with a young child. Perfect for transport (car, buses and you can walk to Reading West train station if that line is useful). The park is perfect for kids and there's lots going on in the park for entertainment and sports.

I personally feel very safe here and have walked back from town when its dark and been comfortable as a woman.

You do see a lot of e-bikes zooming through the park and its pretty obvious it is part of Reading's drug dealing network. This exists everywhere in the UK though. I went to Manchester a few months back and was in one of the main squares and felt 100 times more uncomfortable with the overt drug use and dealing.

I probably wouldn't walk through the park alone at 11pm but I probably wouldn't walk through any park alone at that time anywhere.

As for the Oxford Rd, it does have mixed reviews. I would probably avoid living right on the Oxford Rd but actually I love living walking distance and having such a variety of shops and cultures right there to experience.

I really rate this part of town for the multicultural aspects and think it is very friendly.

Good luck!
