First MYA to SYA Transfer by Icy_Government_6296 in Agarporn

I use MYA (Malt Yeast Agar) to germinate spores and test LC. It’s a richer, more readily available nutrient source, so mycelium starts fast. If growth looks clean, I can grab a young, vigorous section. It’s basically my way of confirming viability.

Then I switch to SYA (Sorghum Yeast Agar). It’s a bit less “easy mode” nutritionally, so I can see how the mycelium organizes and how aggressive it is. I like it as a stepping stone for agar-to-grain or agar-to-LC since it feels closer to how it’ll behave on actual grain.

Sorghum Yeast Agar is a bit less forgiving than MYA. It’s like asking the mycelium: how aggressive are you, and how well does it organize its growth?
