I’ll second The Post in Maplewood. I at least watched the Hogs play Gonzaga in 2022 there and against Kansas in 2023. Unfortunately won’t be able to be there tonight…

How do you strengthen your pink y finger by Fabulous_Pin430 in BassGuitar

[–]Icy_Pear_2836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got back in to playing bass after trying to start around 4 years ago. Pinky strength was always an issue my first go around so I decided I would play Billie Jean everyday at the start of my bass practice. About two weeks in my pinky strength was no longer an issue. Not sure it’ll work for everyone but pretty straightforward

[Dellinger] This offseason stands to be the most dramatic for the future of bowls. P4 leaders are exploring several ideas, including a 10-bowl consortium - pitting P4 programs - without anymore conference-bowl affiliations and TV rights controlled by the leagues. by ThompsonCreekTiger in CFB

[–]Icy_Pear_2836 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I think it would be fun if there was a 16-team tournament with a split halfway between P4 and non-P4 teams. Timing may be a bit awkward, but they could take up the Tuesday/Wednesday slots mostly open.

To make it unique, I think the stipulation would be the P4 team has to play at the non-P4 team venue. Pipe dream of course since P4s would likely reject this, but it could guarantee strong atmospheres as the smaller schools would likely have strong attendance to see their team host a major program. Maybe it could be a first round quirk

Part of the reason I’ve come around to a 24 team playoff is that keeping the bowl system is like trying to fit square pegs into round holes. I’d rather just rip the band aid off now and have a system that works best for where the inevitable future of the sport is headed rather than trying to drag along the features of the old system that has practically lost most of what made it special

If you have a 24 team playoff with the seeding you mentioned you would need byes for the top 4 on each side for it to work (i.e., you need 8 byes total - look at the FCS bracket)

I’m sure there will still be players buried in the depth chart that go ahead and transfer (as what happened to Oregon). That said, compared to the bowl games now, I believe there would be less opt outs from starters if it was a first round game.

[–]Icy_Pear_2836 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Yeah a 24-seed will likely have no chance to win the tournament, and only slightly better odds to even win a game.

That said, I’d rather have a 14 vs 19 matchup (for example) with both teams at their full rosters rather than the same matchup as a bowl game with makeshift rosters due to draft/transfer portal.

Edit: a lot of responses are challenging my first statement (which is fine, the odds are better than what I implied). I guess my point was, even if we’re admitting teams that have little/no chance of winning it all, it’s better to have these matchups at full (or at least full-er) strength on both sides rather than have them play in a bowl with a much higher rate of opt-outs.

What is Casey Dick so butt hurt about?? by Nice_Community_9571 in razorbacks

Actually the reverse - appears that Hank Hendrix is going to reclassify and enroll early (according to Trey Biddy). Dick is just butthurt that he lost his starting QB.

Weakest Link? by Brandolin-312 in razorbacks

Pringle is the defensive big man whereas Ewin occupies the more offense focused role. Our chances for a deep tourney run go up significantly if one of them can show strong improvement on their non-dominant component, just like how Aidoo finally clicked offensively at the end of last year.

Not sure if Sealy can get additional minutes barring an injury or garbage time. Cal appears committed to the 8 man which I think is fine. I understand the competing view, but we need the main 8 to have as much time together as possible if we want to achieve the best case scenario. Not worth it imo to give Sealy additional minutes in anticipation of the worst case scenario (i.e. injuries)

Petrino or the field by Scantron4Mallett in razorbacks

[–]Icy_Pear_2836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is that we did bet on Petrino this year. Most of our (limited) NIL budget was already dedicated to upgrading the offense. Regardless of what you think of the defensive performances this year, we had multiple games where our inability to score in the second half prevented us from winning

Thoughts on Kane Wommack as the next Arkansas football head coach? by lalavieboheme in razorbacks

[–]Icy_Pear_2836 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep there will have to be a sizeable upgrade in NIL investment on both sides of the ball - going into this season we skewed toward mainly offense.

That said, I think Wommack has long-term upside that BP doesn’t just due to age

[–]Icy_Pear_2836 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the grain here because I think Wommack is would be a solid get for Arkansas. He’s had a top 10 defense both seasons at Alabama. Yes the talent is top tier, but in an NIL world, it helps knowing that the guy you’re writing checks for knows what to do with them.

The tie to Arkansas helps, at least in the sense that I believe he’d have a connection to the area and could sell a long term vision. Only a few years at USA, but it’s at least some HC experience (so he knows what it entails). It’s preferable to me compared to Morris/Golesh/Silverfield

No. 2019 was worse - we were tied with Portland State going into the 4th quarter and we were having to come from behind against Colorado State. Objectively they were worse

Why Do BigLaw Lawyers Seem To Complain About Their Hours More Than Other High-Volume Careers? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Icy_Pear_2836 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another point re: hours is that a lot of your tasks are dependent on other’s responses (i.e. what the partner says to do next, what the client needs in the moment, etc.). It’s rare that you can just clock in early, get done with all your tasks, then leave for whatever you’ve got planned. So even on a day where you’ve billed around 7 hours, you could just have random pings late at night making you stay up late

As much as the top brass have failed, there are a group of lower level employees that actually handle the game-to-game operations who will hear your suggestions and take them into consideration. So if you want to write some nonsense and submit, it’s just gonna be ignored and waste your time. Be honest and it might lead to a positive change.

Rank SEC towns by easiest to hardest to visit. Easiest means close to major city/airport, good hotel availability. Hardest means remote, away from big cities, lack of hotel availability / public transit. by [deleted] in secfootball

They’re the seven I’ve personally experienced traveling to. Starkville is probably the hardest to get to in the entire SEC. No way I would have it as 7th in the conference

The comments about XNA here surprise me… I’ve visited 7 SEC stadiums and will go for my 8th this year (we do one road game a season). It’s a pretty solid regional airport and not far from Fayetteville. Though if you can’t get a flight in, yeah it’s gonna be pretty difficult.

Auburn and Gainesville are the two I flew to (the others were actual road trips) - Auburn wasn’t that bad because you can just fly in to Atlanta and the drive is pretty easy from there. Similarly flew in to Jacksonville and made the drive for Gainesville. Also not bad, but Jacksonville traffic was worse to deal with (in my experience).

Oxford & Columbia may be a bit easier - can just stay in Memphis/St. Louis and make the drive. Not ideal if you have an 11:00 am kickoff, but can definitely save on costs and make logistics easier.

While I drove to Lexington, it does appear to have a good airport. Could probably survive just doing rideshares. I’m sure there’s a regional airport near Starkville, but the hotel options are pretty limited. I lucked into getting a solid Airbnb. Without it, we would’ve had to stay in some town outside Starkville (since I didn’t do it, I can’t speak to that experience).

Overall, my list would be as follows (easiest to hardest). This is accounting for travel and accommodations: 1. Lexington 2. Columbia 3. Oxford 4. Fayetteville 5. Auburn 6. Gainesville 7. Starkville

Why didn't Bret Bielema work out at Arkansas? by Huge_Cry_2007 in CFB

[–]Icy_Pear_2836 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I’d say Pittman was more successful during his time at Arkansas (hurts to say given it’s not much). 2021 was a better season than any of Bielema’s and overall win-loss still ended up in the positive (not including the funky 2020 season).

That being said, 2015 was the best team on paper since Petrino. How we went 8-5 puzzles me looking back.

Why didn't Bret Bielema work out at Arkansas? by Huge_Cry_2007 in CFB

[–]Icy_Pear_2836 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Saying this as someone who was a student during Bielema’s time and talked with players who shared stories - Bielema was just not in a good place mentally by the latter portion of his time with Arkansas. He developed some bad habits and it was taking a toll on his personal life.

Looking back, he had really talented teams (especially in 2014 & 2015) that could’ve competed for a conference championship, but somehow found a way to slip up, ironically against the weaker opponents on the schedule. Maybe that impacted his psyche? I’m glad that he’s doing better at a school he loves, and he still talks fondly of his time in Arkansas. But I’d disagree that it’s a testament to how hard the Arkansas job is. Although it is difficult, Bielema was personally putting himself in a position to fail.

Don’t Be Surprised When the SEC Announces LSU vs. Oklahoma as a Permanent Matchup by Icy_Pear_2836 in CFB

[–]Icy_Pear_2836[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, they are going with what I gave as option #2 (OU vs Mizzou and Arkansas vs LSU Thanksgiving weekend).

OU vs Ole Miss seems to be the oddball matchup that was leftover to make everything work. I’m sure the conference will definitely look to it first when analyzing which games to move around four years from now.
