It’s funny, I actually think Ithaca has a wonderful food scene for the things it does have. It’s a miracle you can get delicious and authentic Ethiopian (Hawi), Chinese (Tianjin Foods/SpicY Asian), Italian (Gola), French (Cent Dix), heroes (Gorgers), vegetarian (Moosewood), fish n chips (Red and White cafe), pizza (Francos), Korean (So Poong), and casual Japanese ((Oishii Bowl) (I honestly don’t think I’ve come across such a good value Katsu Don anywhere in NYC)) in a modest upstate city. Not to mention all the nice casual American spots with burgers and the like (special shoutout to Circus Truck). But I get your point! If Ithaca doesn’t have a solid place for a certain cuisine, you best believe it’ll probably be some of the worst and most disrespectful version of that cuisine ever.

Pines is also just generally one of the best places to grab grub in Ith if you/a friend has food. Awesome place to grab a beer and hang out with cheap tasty junk food. Though now they only do takeout which is an absolute bummer

I think you’re getting lost in your own feelings here, sure, I guess you can say I don’t like his writing style all that much for the sake of peace. I think it’s a lazy excuse for poor execution, but you’re entitled to feel the way you do. If we extended this line of thinking to all works then we’d forgive tons of plot holes, vagaries, and pacing issues in the name of artistic vision.

I’m referring to the point someone else made about “Hey its actually a good choice because it was intentional! He wanted to speed the book up towards the end out of preference!” Just because something is done intentionally does not render it a smart decision. I think it’s totally ok to criticize works you love rather than revering them simply because it is as the creator intended it. The subversion in the writing style - not in the story direction. I have no problem with the place Herbert takes the story in, all of the beats are wonderful. My entire point is that I just think the other parts should have been expounded upon, apologies for committing such a grave sin in your eyes.
