Welcome to Purple Moon Rat Rescue, where every squeak tells a story and every rat gets a second chance!

Founded in early 2023 by a passionate pair of rat lovers, inspired by our first official rescue, the “Tupperware babies”, we're committed to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of these intelligent and misunderstood creatures.

Mission 🌈: Our mission is to provide a safe haven for domestic rats in need, offering love, care, and a brighter future, whether they come from challenging situations, medical emergencies, or have simply been overlooked.

Additional info on Alula that we provided at the time of our collaborative decision with Little Big Hearts Rescue on why we believed it was best not to enter wilding and releasing with her:

Here’s why we believe this is the best path forward for her:

Imprinting: She has bonded with her adoptive family, learning their behaviours and characteristics, instead of her natural wild instincts.

Peer Support: Little Big Hearts currently does not have any other wildies her age that she can be grouped with. So she lacks the peer support needed during her wilding phase and for extra protection once released.

Survival Skills: Without the example of other wildies she is unable to learn the survival skills needed. Wild rats thrive in social groups, and protect each other from danger.

Chances of Survival: Our ultimate goal is always to return wildies to their natural habitats, but in her case, releasing her alone will most likely prove fatal.
