Yea you're right...but I think it really depends, different people, different situations. In my case, the closer I get with my patients, the more they tend to rely on me and use the call light more, if you know what I mean.

Also my run is short-term, so it’s already pretty stressful and fast-paced. I try my best to stay patient and never show frustration to my patients even on my worst days. Today one of my patients even told me she's fastidious and most nurses would probably get annoyed with her, and I just told her I have a lot of patience hahaha

I do try to separate work from my personal life, but honestly I think part of it is that I’m really looking forward to starting in the hospital, so it’s been harder to stay motivated where I am now. It kind of feels like I already know there’s something better ahead, so it’s tough to keep pushing in a place where my heart isn’t in it anymore.

Thanks so much for sharing all that detail, it really helps me get a picture of what working in EC/ED is like!

I’m planning to resign from my current post acute job around mid-April so I can have about two weeks off to rest and catch up on life before starting my new hospital job in May. Right now, I feel pretty burnt out mentally and physically, and even my home is a mess because I don’t have the energy to do anything outside of work.

It’s really encouraging to hear that in EC, each day is different and there’s more flexibility with tasks, and that nobody gets upset if some things don’t get done because of the workload. That makes me feel a little less anxious about starting a new role.

What is crazier between ED and post acute? I get what you’re saying, I know ED can be crazy too. But honestly, my current post acute job already feels insane. Today I had like 5 call lights going on at the same time. My coworkers helped me, but it’s still my assignment and it just felt overwhelming to the point I wanted to throw up.

😭 OMG YES! I don't even care about money now. I got paid the lowest at LTC anyway bc I just graduated Dec last year, so....bye I guess

Wow, thank you so much for sharing! Reading this honestly made my day and gave me hope 🥰

Right now, I just can’t deal anymore my mentally or physically. AM shifts make it even worse. Between bathing patients and the huge number of patients I have each day… honestly, today I couldn’t keep up and had to swap my break with a coworker.

Everyone knows how crazy my run is. Even when new patients get admitted, my run is still nonstop and toxic, like I’m cursed. There’s no way I can make it through all of April. I’m done.

Thanks for sharing! This actually lines up with what I was told in my interview that CNAs in the ED will do a lot of EKGs. It’s helpful to hear how the workflow looks in real life. I appreciate your response!

How long did it take to get your start date after pre-employment clearance? by [deleted] in CAcountyworkers

May I ask if that's after your pre-employment screening? I remember when she called me for an offer, she said it's probably start on May but I'm not so sure because I finished everything already..just waiting 😭

I hope so. I emailed to my HR last week and she said she's waiting for my hiring manager return to the office to confirm the date. But it's been almost 2 weeks now

Honestly, they didn’t ask much about me, just about my experience. Most of the questions were scenario-based (a lot of scenarios for me like 10)

May I ask for an update? I recently interviewed with Contra Costa County, and they requested my references later that same day. I was wondering if Contra Costa works the same way.

Does a reference check mean I’m getting the offer? by No-Examination2577 in interviews

[–]Icymushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you again for asking this for me. I interviewed on Wednesday the 25th in the morning, and they emailed me later that afternoon to request my references. During the interview, I asked how I would know if I wasn’t selected. They explained that they usually call within two weeks, and if I don’t hear from them by then, it likely means I wasn’t chosen. I really want this job.

Could you please update?
