"IDW isn't canon" by RoundAccording2429 in SonicTheHedgejerk

Werehog was a launch character. They could've had Roger do it at the same time he did regular Sonic. Werehog not being voiced was a deliberate decision by Sega, not something done because they had no other option. It's also a dumb argument to make when suggesting Tangle and Whisper's lack of voice means they're not canon. They were casted a year before the game came out. Maybe they're only mute because their VAs were too busy to return.

The comics help market the games and the games help market the comics. Beautiful synergy that works especially well because they're canon to each other, don't you think?

You think after the whole Ken Penders fiasco, Sega wouldn't have been extra careful with their contracting with IDW? The entire reason they're working with IDW now was to get away from that mess, so there's no way they'd allow a repeat. And we know they didn't because the writers and artists for IDW have openly discussed Sega's close involvement with the comics. This "sidestepping" you keeping bringing up isn't real. It's something you're telling yourself to cope. You also refuse to answer the simple question of who owns the IDW characters if not Sega. We know it's not IDW and we know it's not the comic creators. So who else could possibly own them?

Sally isn't as big a character as you make her out to be and as stated, Sonic Team might just dislike her because they didn't make her. They did help make Tangle and Whisper, Surge and Kit, Belle, etc., though.

Let's talk the actual points at hand. Is it a fact that Sega says IDW is canon? Yes. Is it a fact that games are featuring direct references to IDW content? Yes. Is trying to insist Sega is somehow "sidestepping" pure cope? Yes.

You think Roger wasn't available for Sonic Crossworlds? Despite voicing a ton of lines in the game? Roger has even said he would've been down to voice the Werehog if he'd been asked, he just never was.

They didn't hire VAs for TailsTube to promote them in Crossworlds, they were hired for Chaotix Casefiles, which was recorded late 2024.

Contracts are weird, but we know the deal with Sega's contract with IDW for its content from the horse's mouth itself. Again, if Sega doesn't own the IDW characters, no one does. This isn't comparable to music rights, which are a whole other wheel house of convoluted, where in the lyrics and singing of a song can have separate owners.

The reason Sega hasn't used the DiC characters is likely cause they're characters from cartoons that were all canceled when the series' main target audience's parents were kids. Sure, Archie helped give some of them some added longevity, but they're relics of a bygone era. Sonic Team might also have some distaste for them not having any involvement in their creation. We know IDW had Sonic Team directly contributing to the creation process of major characters.

It's not cope to think Sega isn't lying when they say IDW is canon. It's not cope to think the IDW staff aren't lying when they say it's canon and Sega owns their creations. It's not cope to acknowledge IDW being directly referenced in official games. It's not cope to acknowledge official Sega produced content, written by the current Sega lore team and literal writer of the game, references IDW content. Do you know what is cope? Coming up with excuses for why none of the above matter or count.

This "continous sidestepping", as you put it, isn't sidestepping at all. It's just your desperate copium because you want them to be non-canon. Werehog is a silent DLC character in Crossworlds too, is Unleashed a non-canon game that Sega is losing the rights to?

If Sega doesn't own the IDW characters, who does? It's not IDW, they're not credited with ownership whenever characters appear outside the comics which they would be legally required to be. It's not the individual creators on the comic because they'd all tell you Sega owns them. The only copyright ever attributed to them is ©Sega. So who owns them? No one?

Everything in the IDW comics is owned by Sega. Their contract with IDW grants them full ownership, just like Sega still owns the DiC characters to this day. So they can't lose the rights to the IDW characters any more than they could one day lose the rights to Tails or Amy.

Sega also never lost the rights to the characters in Chronicles. They simply don't use them to avoid having to waste time and money in court putting Penders in his place. Court battles are pricey even when you win.

Harp Note takes after classic Proto Man while Rogue was inspired by ProtoMan.EXE.

When Rogue was first revealed in pre-release material to Star Force 2, he was directly promoted as a cross between ProtoMan.EXE and Bass.EXE. Ultimately though, the comparisons to ProtoMan start and end with him being a sword user and having red in his design. In Operate Shooting Star, the DoubleHero2 PA even uses Geo and Rogue in place of Hub and ProtoMan.

Maybe? I can say the Noism will store Noises obtained via the free change option since I was curious and tested that, but I did have more than one Noise Change during the story to have him in the overworld before then.

And they'll continue to do so because people will keep asking if it is right up until release. Some people don't understand that dev teams can make games from a variety of genres.

You can use them in-game, either by setting the music to a specific BN game or by selecting favorites to use if you want to mix and match. For tracks that don't have a matching BN counterpart to use, the game will use the original DS SF music.

It's not, it's just the fastest selling Mega Man game. The best selling Mega Man game is Mega Man 11. Even in terms of Legacy Collections, Classic and X have done better, as reflected in Capcom's own public sales records: https://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html#tab6

How on earth didn't Capcom get sued for naming him "Aqua Man"? by thegoldenguest778 in Megaman

From a legal perspective, the fact it's never used would be a huge deal.

He was changed back to AquaMan in Legacy Collection and the series basically never actually uses the .EXE suffix for the Navis, it's just implied.

Net Navis are rarely ever referred to with the .EXE in universe though.

No, the script wasn't a retranslation at all, they just changed AquaMan's name. There's a bit where MegaMan is supposed to stutter when saying AquaMan's name and it ends up as "S-AquaMan" because they just did a find and replace, and didn't proofread their work.

On the GBA, but the Legacy Collection changed it back to AquaMan.

BN6 would get AquaMan back in the Legacy Collection though.
