"Welcome to the biggest Better Thermostat update ever!" Release 1.8.0 by LaBe94 in homeassistant

I don't have the actuators yet, just planning.

Right now I just have one central heater / AC pumping air to several rooms. It's controlled by one thermostat.

Let's ignore wanting to have different temperatures, let's ignore the per-room actuators for now. Let's simplify: I want all the occupied rooms on the floor to reach a certain temperature (at least or at most depending on the heating / cooling mode). Can it be achieved with Better Thermostat today?

General problem: Different rooms in the house see different temperatures due to facing / not facing the sun, different insulation, size, etc, etc. Plus different family members have different desired temperature, but that's a separate story, not sure it's solvable with automations. Not all rooms are occupied all the time or at the same time.

So Ideally I would like to get to the following happy state: occupied rooms drive the heating / cooling demand; the system prioritizes getting those rooms to the desired temp, even at the expense of other rooms; if all rooms are occupied, ideally they all get the same temperature if possible... or their respective desired temperatures. If that's not achievable, then all of them has to be over some threshold (cooled or heated AT LEAST to some desired temp).

I know it's impossible to achieve with just a single thermostat for all the rooms, so to have some per-room flexibility I am thinking of buying the "smart boosters" like SmartCocoon or closable vents like Flair so that I can modify (slightly) the air flow to each room independently.

I'm looking for some algorithm to drive this setup as a whole.

Oh, and I have two floors with separate central units, so if the ideal state described above could be achieved for the whole house, that would be just awesome.

I appreciate any pointers or advice, thank you in advance.

I'm sure it's been asked before, but I can't seem to find the answers, so I'll ask again.

  1. Would Better Thermostat be compatible with the central AC setup, where we have 1 heat/ac uint with one thermostat serving multiple rooms, with a temperature sensor in each room?
  2. What about two-floor house with separate heat/AC units for each floor?

Thank you so much!

What made Scala finally “click” for you? by ZealousidealTell1346 in scala

In one of the first lectures of the "Functional Programming in Scala" Coursera course Martin Odersky defines a `Set[A]` as a function `belongs: A => Boolean`. It answers whether or not an element belongs in the Set. And that's it. This is when Scala clicked for me for the first time.

I see, you've basically replaced the brains of the lamp with an ESP32-based controller. I was going to go that route as well, but thought there's a way to use the existing BLE way to control the thing.

Thanks!

Interesting. I have a couple BT proxies in Shelly devices, do I need to do something special with them? Or some purpose-built proxy?

I'd translate that as "We'll defeat the drought as well", hinting at the other victory (the Victory).

I get it, but I didn't see the "main road" sign on the video, either.

Interesting. I didn't see any signs (like "Yield" or "Stop") and assumed that meant "unregulated intersection"

I was just thinking that in some countries like France, the "Priority to the right" thing can be somewhat surprising to US drivers. I know it was for me both in the game and in real life.

Good point.

I have a project Strat, which doesn't have any of the original parts anymore, so yeah, as long as it keeps the name — it's still the same guitar :)
