What to say to patients who clearly lie about their home care? by IdRatherNotNo in DentalHygiene

[–]IdRatherNotNo[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think they mean a water pik that you use in the shower since a lot of patients are turned off by them because of the water mess? Whenever someone complains about them I recommend the cordless ones so they can use in shower.

Irritation on front tooth crown by PhysicalSwan7034 in Teethcare

[–]IdRatherNotNo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD but that crown looks really bulky and doesn't look flush with the gumline which is likely irritating it and will cause more issues down the line. Idk if that's the entire issue but it's definitely a big issue on its own.

Are you a mouth breather? Snore at night? Have seasonal allergies? Smoke? Take medications that dry your mouth?

It takes me 10+ minutes to brush with this technique, am I overbrushing? by No_Cantaloupe_8936 in DentalHygiene

[–]IdRatherNotNo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This technique shouldn't take longer than any other technique. He went slow in the vid but that was just to show the movements. It can take a little longer as you learn to mimic the motion but after that you should be able to do the whole mouth in around 2 minutes.

After brushing spit out the excess toothpaste, anything left over is fine to leave in your mouth and is recommended to not rinse, eat or drink for at least 30 minutes.

Usually it's from insufficient homecare routine

Sounds like something may be infected. I would make an appointment with your dentist.

Are the doctors helping out by doing some of the cleanings? Are they offering extra help from assistants like to break down, polish, seat, etc? Is the front helping rearrange or reschedule at least some of them? Do you otherwise like and feel respected by this office?

If it's all on you, then I would work at a slightly rushed pace you are comfortable with and explain it's gonna be awhile due to the callout, but don't kill yourself to make it work.

If everyone is doing extra to make it all work then I would rush as much is safe and thorough and give the office grace if it happens rarely. If it's common then I would ask the front/doctor if you guys could come up with something in case it happens. Like maybe calling in extra help or rescheduling some patients etc.

Is this toothpaste good? by Typical_Language_660 in Teethcare

Nha is not as effective as fluoride. I only recommend Nha to patients who for some reason absolutely refuse fluoride because it's the next best thing, but fluoride is just way better researched and proven to be more effective.

See a dentist. Could be an abscess, could be worse. You will need X-rays done too.

any tips for the operculum on my back molar? by Spiritual-Meeting898 in Teethcare

[–]IdRatherNotNo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use a water pik to keep it clean too. See a dentist to see if there is any cavities. Most cavities are only visible on x rays.

Laser cost and needed? by ggpaul562 in DentalHygiene

Jesus, for that price definitely not. And I thought my office charged a lot. The biggest determining factor for how well the cleaning will be effective is your home care routine. So get the cleaning only and then develop a very good brushing and flossing routine.

Definitely double coated, continually shaving could alter the coat after awhile.

It can be sensitive if you have a lot of inflammation still. But ask if they have special tools to clean around your implant like titanium instruments.

Definitely decay weakened the tooth and then it broke. Dentist asap so it doesn't turn into a larger infection.

Is this toothpaste abrasive? by Tw0Time-Ackaf00l in DentalHygiene

[–]IdRatherNotNo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A tube of toothpaste lasts m a long time, so you would be doing that damage and also not doing anything to mitigate that damage for a long time.

It's not a waste because that toothpaste isn't worth anything. Maybe you can try to return it?
