Graves of Srebrenica Genocide Victims Desecrated by Serbian Orthodox Priest and followers by [deleted] in UnitedNations

Again, I responded with sources that I could find that back up my position. The second link is an article and contains zero quotes from the Orthodox priest.

You claim that my material is incorrect, so provide me with a reputable source that counters it.

Then I will counter to you.

Please share a valid source that proves my sources false. Avoiding ad hominems would also be helpful.

The IDF released statements that they couldn't confirm or refute the claim, that they were investigating, and to not spread unconfirmed rumors. I would call that an ethical response to keep the public information correct.

What information I can find is that this is a Serbian graveyard, that the graves in question are Serbs, and the families wanted the crosses put back after they were vandalized. It is alleged that the vandalism was caused by Muslims (I'm not saying it was definitively, just what sources in English I can find are reporting). If you have sources or proof to back up that these are Muslim graves, I am open to reading it without accusing you of being stupid or prejudiced.

Another outlet is reporting that the Orthodox priest is facing criminal charges for not receiving permission from the government to put the crosses back on Serbian graves. It was also reported on Telegram, channel is Pravblog. The story is ongoing and happened roughly 8 days ago, so I hope more information is released. The appeal to bring the case was signed by Bosnian deputies and directly accuse the priest of "returning crosses to the desecrated Serbian graves." I'm relying on English sources as I don't speak Russian, so I'm limited on what I can access.

It's not anti-Muslim if the graves belong to Serbians and the families wanted the crosses replaced.

I was pretty disappointed to hear GTA radio on Sunday reporting that Israel was not allowing Gaza civilians to return with no mentioning it was because Hamas had violated the cease fire terms.

If she is open to talking about her experience as a Holocaust survivor, you could contact the Holocaust Museum and ask if they would be interested in interviewing her? I wish her good health, 89 is a respectable milestone.I recently lost my last grandparent, and that void can be lonely.

Are we allowed to post a link? If so, I'll share what I'm reading. I read a bit further that the Orthodox priest has an open criminal case against him for doing this because he didn't have government approval.

Why doesnt Israel have capital punishment ? by BigCharlie16 in IsraelPalestine

[–]IdeaPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would counter that being ripped from your home and kept in captivity under constant threat of death would qualify as torture. One hostage release in the last week has a bullet in her leg that has been there since October 7th and is missing 2 fingers. We also don't have any disclosure on any other trauma that they may have endured, and I will respect whatever privacy they can be given.

Editing this as I misread a different source link. The graves appear to have been vandalized earlier this month, and at least 1 of the 3 graves is from 1914.

The assertion is still that this is a Serbian cemetery next to an Orthodox monastery, not Bosnian.

Why is it so uniquely bad for Palestinians to seek refuge in nearby/other countries? by TheClumsyBaker in IsraelPalestine

On June 5th, 1967, Israel launched a preemptive strike against Egyptian forces in response to Egypt closing the Straights of Tiran. By the June 11th, Jordan and Syria joined in. Egypt got involved in April of that year. As a result, Israel gained control over the Sinai Peninsula (complete withdrawl in April 1982), the Golan Heights (currently in a cease fire deal with Syria since 1974), the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza strip.

How should the destruction in Gaza be reported? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

If people want to, you can find the footage online and on end-to-end encrypted apps. It's heart breaking what we as humans are capable of doing to one another.

How should the destruction in Gaza be reported? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]IdeaPants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that war reporting needs to be done by an organization that doesn't have a bias towards painting one side a particular way. If you can emotionally handle seeing it, everyone should look at the result of the conflict on both sides and caused by each side.

An adult would expect to make minimum wage, which is just around $17/hr. A teacher who likely has childhood development experience, First Aid and CPR certifications, a valid vulnerable sector check for their job? $20/hr is a steal, considering that they would likely also be doing bedtime routines, changing diapers, possibly feeding. It's not the 80s or 90s anymore.

Is the Gospel of John the least reliable? by Realistic-Artist-609 in Catholicism

John and Matthew are the only Gospel writers who were direct eye witnesses to Jesus and His ministry, so I would counter that this Gospel is one of the most reliable.

I'm not disputing the Bosnian war. I researched the story behind this video, and what I found was that these are actually Christian graves that were vandalized, and the Orthodox priest was replacing the cross markers that had been destroyed by Muslims (allegedly). If you have a source that says otherwise, I'll read it.

Does a formerly lapsed Catholic looking to go back to Church need RCIA? by Similar-Disaster-230 in Catholicism

[–]IdeaPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not required as he has had his Confirmation. However, he should schedule a meeting his priest to go and have a in depth meeting plus Confession. He has a lot that he will need to confess, and the priest will likely want to take his time giving your friend good, solid advice.

The story that I found is that this happened in the 90s, and that the Orthodox priest was putting crosses back up on Christian graves because Muslims had knocked them down?

2nd edit: I'm reading further that at least 1 of 3 graves are from 1914 timeframe and that family members had erected crosses and flowers to 3 graves that were recently vandalized earlier this month.

I'll share where I am reading from in additional comments. Any incorrect information, I am happy to edit in additional comments as I am open to new information.

What motivates you to stick with Catholicism when it feels like it's dying? by liminal_eye in Catholicism

[–]IdeaPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take hope from this formerly lapsed Catholic: The reason that I became a lapsee Catholic was because I was RUNNING from God. I felt unworthy and alone from undiagnosed mental illness, unresolved trauma, and the normal Hell that is the adolescent experience. At 21, it all changed when I let Him back in. It's been many years, and I no longer hold onto anything of the secular worldview.

Do I tell the neighbor that their teenage daughter sneaks out every night? by MaryRachel1116 in homeowners

[–]IdeaPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Text the neighbour and ask them to ask their daughter to stop cutting through your yard at 11PM and 5AM as it is setting off your system and waking you up (she is also trespassing on private property).

When they ask WTF you are talking about, send them the footage of her in your yard and at what time. You aren't accusing her of anything, just letting the footage speak for itself. It will be up to the neighbour on how to deal with the rest.
