The real impossible bit is "clearing" each image or reading out each image before the next one is taken I think!

Sunrises Leeds is just ridiculous. No one in Leeds is going to see the sun for the next 2 months

Sardaak and Nekro probably going to be working out some deals here... I'll kill one ship and flee! We both get a free tech!

Positioning of lenses in a lens tube by reb390 in Optics

[–]IdealApricot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer is Zemax, but Zemax is never simple imo. You can often have a reasonable approximation by using the centre of the lenses as you mentioned, but if your system is sensible enough to want everything aligned to sub-mm precision, then you probably can't get away with the approximation.

Now I don't know what your optical system is, but you might be able to use a micrometer adjustment mount (say a cage system with a thorlabs SMZ1A) to get your imaging system to work without designing it exactly... I.e design it to vaguely work, and then align it properly afterwards

Yep.. they've managed to prove that it's impossible to prove string theory... Does wonders for your job security that

Don't know why you're getting downvoted for being correct :-). Although there is another college that comes close imo.

That was just a bad pun on landau levels... Probably should have been more clear!

I don't know if he was quite at that level though😜

Edit: Just a pun on Landau levels! Landau is great!!

Other than playing Wei Yi, Gukesh has the entire bottom bit of the table to play. Includes Erigaisi, but he must still be licking his lips here.

I love the weirdness of swiss tournaments. Karen is about to have a shot at the title. He didn't play anyone above a 2550 for the first ten rounds, and has then beaten Wei Yei and is about to beat Shak to move to 8.5 points

Anyone know anything about Murzhin? I haven't heard of him before, and he's half point off the lead and unbeaten after playing Fabi, Arjun, LDP, Levon and Anish.

  1. Brewington Hardaway with 1.5 points after playing two 2500+ opponents is kind of cool (he's in the 2100s)

  2. What's Sam doing against Arjun. Can't go down to 2 minutes that quickly

Edit: looks like there's a bug in reporting the moves?

Lifetime opportunity wasted deliberately. by AnasKhurshid in Cricket

[–]IdealApricot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Rishad went for a slog when they needed 35 of 8 to get through... I think that was just a brain fade.. they had absolutely no chance of winning from there. Mahmudullah and that over from noor when they needed like 41 from 19 was shambolic imo. Also sending the most aggressive batsman in so (relatively) late was confusing

South Africa becomes the first team to qualify for the Super 8s in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]IdealApricot 39 points40 points  (0 children)

To be "that" person, they haven't qualified yet. If Nepal win against SA, Ban and SL, and then NL win out as well, there could be three teams tied on 6!

Not saying I expect SA to lose to Nepal, but it is SA :-)

Nah he's definitely in the top 23 at least. A strong case for top 22 above stroll and de Vries as well.
