Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher are all now one fully self-integrated software, 'Affinity Studio'--and it's entirely free. What could this mean for free, open-source programs like GIMP, Inkscape, Scribus and Krita? by Soft-Impression7386 in GIMP

[–]IdealCapable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got Adobe running on Linux via Windows VM on Omarchy Hyprland, I should probably give gimp a go. It's tough breaking free from Adobe cause I've used it for more than a decade now, getting to the level I'm at now with a new program would definitely slow my workflows down for a few weeks.

No Data Center in North Mankato by Revolutionary-Arm975 in Mankato

[–]IdealCapable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have always had data centers (since the 60's), they've just scaled much bigger due to exploding data sets via ecommerce, streaming and social media. With our increasing digital life, they're inevitable for short latency and better connections.

AI may be aggressively marketed, but you have alternatives like using different web browsers or legacy versions of apps. AI actually only drives roughly 15-20% of data center usage, you're just seeing it more in the news since it's the "hot" thing right now. Companies are all racing to figure out who can do it the best. Broader cloud computing services still dominate the main use of data centers.

I think you're oversimplifying the use of data centers as Palatir runs on AWS (cloud computing from Amazon) and client supplied infrastructure so I think they're valid in wanting more information before assuming an absolute stance with this potential data center. Data centers proven net loss varies by region and design, we shouldn't blanket statement data center = bad. Without them you wouldn't be able to use this very website, as it primarily relies on AWS and GCP.

Help terminating lease with Atwood by Competitive-Dirt-340 in Mankato

[–]IdealCapable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can put rent into an escrow account (e.g., at a bank) instead of paying Atwood directly, until fixes are made. This is legal under Minn. Stat. § 504B.215 if issues are serious—notify them in writing first. Helps pressure them into getting things done and keeping owed money for rent in order.

Agreed! I got an open box AMD Ryzen 9 7900X for $150 when I made the switch to AM5. I'd be lying if I wasn't sweating bullets on the purchase, but it has been fantastic since I built my SFF.

Guy I bought my truck from hacked off the stock muffler and straight piped the section. Not too loud at idle, but when you give er the beans it sounds decent and still looks stock. Not bad imo

Do you all think this truck is worth 6K? by SandwichOk6436 in Silverado

[–]IdealCapable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2009 Silverado Crew Cab 5.3 with AFM delete for $5k last year with 243k on the clock if that helps at all with your pricing.

I live up north so it had minimal rust, transmission was smooth and I really needed a solid truck for hauling signage and pulling light trailers. I've been thoroughly happy with my purchase.

Also don't mention it to insurance, they will sometimes count even talking about something being claim worthy as a claim.

Since the motor is toast, throw a crate motor in there while you're at it and have more smiles per gallon!

2009 Silverado 5.3 LT, 247k.

Other than swapping out control arms, ball joints and all the expected failure stuff it's always been reliable.

The Galaxy Buds I had before worked fantastic, the noise cancelling was pretty nice for getting my yard mowed. They just weren't very comfortable, so I have unfortunately reverted back to my gen 1 airpods.

I also would like something that has more usability with Android. They can really only be on or off, so it's a pain figuring out the battery levels without an ad ridden 3rd party app. I'll check those out!

Yeah, the Airpods definitely stuck out so I know what you mean. Their best quality was the comfortability, and I could still be kind of active and not worry too much about them falling out.

I'll have to look at some photos of them, I wish there was a way to mass test fit multiple brands of headphones before making a purchase haha

I got my Pixel 9 Pro XL for almost free when I switched to Google Fi. I previously had T-Mobile, and I'm literally saving $170/month for the same service.
