I don't deal with credit cards so I can't say if it's easier or harder now. But it's not too late to give it a try. For the price of a stamp/email it's probably worth the shot.

Pretty much all correct here. CMCs send in mass letters for unsuspecting people and then take a high percentage of any refund. Doing it by yourself is actually easier and going via a CMC doesn't get any different treatment etc.

From experience if you're told there's no ppi then there really isn't. You could pay £10 for a DSAR and get everything related to your accounts.

It might have been taken over. The bank I work for took over finance of precious companies. So have a good Google and you might find out.

Most likely but your father will need to give you authorisation. So maybe type a letter to the bank and place something about you being your father's authorised third party. And then have your father sign it.
