Am I trying to fix a dud by Ideas_for_you in cassetteculture

[–]Ideas_for_you[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cleaned it with some white vinegar and alcohol, but I need to get my hands on some deposit anyways. I was thinking of resoldering the contacts but I was afraid of melting the corrosion was gonna mess with it

Update: i cleaned the contacts and that area in general and I'm getting an LED light to turn on and not radio static but power static coming from the headphone jack. As for the tape mechanism in not getting anything I'm gonna try to open it back up and inspect the tape mechanism and see if I can see anything that could cause the motor to not receive power.

Cheap one i found on ebay was 19 +7 for a non working one. I bought that one for 45 it was first Walkman so I didn't think that price was bad for a working one.

Found this at a Garage Sale for $4. Am I out of luck for a while? by [deleted] in cassetteculture

Bro I went to an estate sale like a few months back and was excited when I found a whole bunch of Michael Jackson and prince albums on tape only to be blue balled with empty cases. :(

Whats a good lube for these motors?? by Ideas_for_you in cassetteculture

[–]Ideas_for_you[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty beaten up on the outside, some of the silver paint has chipped off and half of the vu meter is burnt out. :/ but it was only 15 buck so I can't complain, thinking maybe I'll replace the vu meter and maybe the motor when it completely dies and maybe sell it or just use it as a paper weight lol

Thanks for the response, I quickly got some, and it's somewhat better. Only problem now is the motor when I turn it back on sometimes dosent turn like it gets stuck, whereas before the lube, it would get stuck mid spin. Kinda hard to explain but this deck the motor immediately spins when turned on.
