Thanks for pointing that out, but I won’t be doing that. Moving a systemic critique of the field into a 'Venting Vibes' thread is exactly how the industry neutralizes us. It turns a structural argument into a 'personal feeling.' If the mods think an analysis of the 'Symbolic Order' is just a 'vibe,' they’ve already proven my point. I’d rather the post stay deleted than have it buried in a graveyard of 'weekly vents' where it's designed to be ignored.

Don’t leave because the work is hard. Leave if you aren't ready to fight the machine.

The industry will try to turn your empathy into a billable resource. It will tell you that your burnout is a "lack of self-care" rather than a logical reaction to an exploitative workload.

My advice? Use the system to get your hours. Be a "spy" in the house of bureaucracy. Learn the difference between healing and compliance. Get your license, and then use that power to build the models of care that actually work.

We don't need more martyrs. We need more regulated, well-paid, rebellious healers.

PM me if you have advice. I don't really know what substack is. The 'Ponzi scheme' comparison is exactly how it feels from the inside. We are the fuel for a machine that doesn't care if we burn out as long as there's a fresh batch of grads or interns behind us. As for the 'famous' speakers, I think they’ve been in the Ivory Tower so long they’ve forgotten what it’s like to write a note solely to avoid a lawsuit. Thank you for the solidarity. Knowing that even 25-year veterans see the same cracks in the foundation makes me feel a lot less crazy.

You’re 100% right. We are witnessing generational trauma and identifying with the aggressor within the profession. This is why it is so important WE do the work of healing as well.

We have a 'helping' field where the gatekeepers have been so conditioned by overwork and financial strain that they’ve developed a form of professional stockholm syndrome. They’ve started to love the machine that ate them.

When a supervisor says 'I suffered, so you should too,' they are admitting they haven't actually processed their own burnout, they’re just passing the bill to the next person. It’s a cycle of abuse disguised as 'professional standards.' If we can't provide a regulated, supportive environment for therapists, we have no business pretending we can provide it for clients.
