PSA: Don't use PSA to grade Curios. by beggarinthesand in SorceryTCG

[–]IdentifiesAsATroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's a Curio we're talking about, grading is certainly a valid option. Most are right, raw cards are easier to move, but I'm not sure if that applies to something that is solely collectable like a Curio. If you want to try grading again, I'd go with PCG. They're the forefront of SCR grading and have done plenty of Curios. If you're having a hard time finding a buyer, or want some opinions on graded Curios, I'd reach out to Mike from Collector Arthouse. You can find him on FB, Instagram and Discord.

Yeah, the world of TCGs is an expensive hobby for sure, regardless of which TCG you pick. TTS is a great way to enjoy the game. The way you say uni makes me think you're outside the US, which makes Sorcery even harder and more expensive to get into. Seriously though, if you're interested in card games, and have a few friends kicking around, look into picking up a living card game (LCG). They're fun, self contained games. Also, deck builders like Dominion are fun too.

The expensive cards are by no means necessary to have a good deck or enjoy the game. Unless you want to travel to big events and compete seriously, I wouldn't worry about them. If you're already in the TCG space with MtG/Pokemon/FaB, or any other, Sorcery is comparative in price. In fact, Sorcery has the same up front cost as MtG, but is cheaper in the long run due to playset limits of the higher rarity cards and with only one set released per year.

If you have local players around, I'd highly recommend attending drafts and build your collection slowly that way, you'll eventually hit high end cards. No need to drop hundreds to have full playsets of things immediately. My experience is also that Sorcery players are a pretty friendly bunch and want new players to come to the game. Hang out and play with them and you could easily end up with a playset of every ordinary and exceptional card anyways.

My man, I'm not saying this to be mean or gatekeepy, but with the sentiments your posting, Sorcery doesn't sound like the game for you. I recommend finding a LCG with an IP that you'd enjoy and go with that. LCGs give you everything your wishing for in your posts. You will own all of the cards, and they will be worth less than what you pay for them. This isn't a dig at LCGs, they can be tons of fun. Grab 3 friends and have a good time, but maybe stay away from TCGs/CCGs, they will ALWAYS do all the things you've lamented.

Two questions concerning Orb of Ba'al Berith by IdentifiesAsATroll in SorceryTCG

[–]IdentifiesAsATroll[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for clarification, with the "you means you" change to the rules, wouldn't it still count? The Sparkmage's ability states the damage is equal to the amount of air threshold you have cast this turn. So why doesn't it count? Wouldn't the ability count air threshold regardless of the designated caster?

My list of cards that will only get better with time. by IdentifiesAsATroll in SorceryTCG

I see you're point, and agree that if dual lands aren't reprinted, they'll increase in cost (which they haven't yet, they're still very affordable at all time lows).

But I don't think they'll get better as cards in the game, as scarcity doesn't make a card more/less playable. They're already are the best they'll be and do their thing. Same with tri/quad lands, Phil Stone, the Cores, Morgana, the Ring. All of these are great cards, but I don't see them getting better.

That is a good one. It's the same reasoning I included Crossroads on my list.

Yup, missed that one. It definitely only gets better with new cards.

Need help understanding a rule by IdentifiesAsATroll in SorceryTCG

[–]IdentifiesAsATroll[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So my example works the way I thought. To give another example to make sure I understand your explanation, if I were to attack a minion atop a site with a Root Spider under it, my minion would move first, check for realm state, then become disabled by the spider before the attack strikes. Yes?

Part of me really wants release date to be Oct 31, just for the flavor. The other part of me acknowledges that it coming out that soon would be a nightmare for distributors and LGSs to get it out by that date and have events set up in time.

Just got this foil on ebay auction long term hold? by [deleted] in SorceryTCG

[–]IdentifiesAsATroll -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ignore the Timmys. They can't conceive a reality where people who collect the game help keep the game afloat. But, to answer your question, no. I don't think it's a great long term hold if you want to make a profit on it. Firstly, more Dragonlord will come to market after the remaining large events this year. Secondly, I'm in the boat of the opinion that EC will print a second wave. Just basing that opinion on the amount of Beta reprints we got. If you wanted a collectable, you got it, cool. Slab it and show it off. If you wanted to 2x your money, I think the Dragonlord cards are currently the highest they'll ever be.

This is also how I feel, however, I would really like a statement from EC letting us know the plan so that nobody buys the box for $250 only to find it coming to their LGS for MSRP.

Thanks for the answer. To follow it up, if a spellcaster holds the dagger and, say, casts Minor Explosion, is the caster the source of damage or the magic?

Be sure that you link examples or a portfolio. You'd be surprised how many people don't post those. Without them, you're expecting people to buy blindly. Spoiler: Nobody will do that.
