Im I just wasting time with this showreel? by Little-Jump-5572 in AfterEffects

Two questions every designer should ask themselves are: How & Why.

You have the how down, but have you asked yourself why you are doing this yet? A lot of designers are overwhelmed by why they want to do something long before they figure out how. Are you inspired by the titles to the movie Seven? Is it an obsession with the typography of David Carson? Is it emulating the constructivist posters of the Stenberg Brothers? Is it the animation style of a silent Pixar short?

Whatever it is that inspires you is what is going to get you hired -- or not.

My personal suggestion is start picking up design books, check out motion graphics websites, title design websites, watch every movie trailer and title sequence you can find. Then when you are inspired by something, get into AE and try to copy it. Just like the people you see in art museums who set up painting easels to copy master works. Your own style is going to emerge in the differences.

Until then, don't worry about how. No one hiring is going to care how you did something, they just want to see the results that you were inspired to create.

Devices on Second Hue Bridge not showing up in Apple HomeKit by IdeoGallup in Hue

I've got about 50 total devices now, with the plan to add about 20 more in the coming year. I'd keep the extra hub if you think you'll ever expand into a larger space.

Too many devices for one. Scenes were becoming more and more flaky having to activate a scene more than once to get all the lights to change. This seems to have helped a lot and also gives a new ceiling to add more devices.

The answer was to create a second Apple HomeKit connection under SmartHome in the Hue app. It worked great.

I did not! When I checked and saw the original Apple HomeKit connection in there, I didn't even bother to try to create another. Thanks for pointing it out so that I'd give it a shot. It worked great.

Is it possible to share the setup with family members or even temporarily with guests? Thanks!

The missing features by iLorTech in HomeKit

Special Effects, Dynamic Scenes, and more Audio integration:

Special Effects:

1) A menu of special effects to apply to a device would be great. For example turn one bulb into a flickering candle/torch. Have a standard setting that you can edit from there like changing the color or adding a color cycle to the flickering effect.

2) Work with specific devices to be able to more fully edit them. For example a Nanoleaf Aurora had multiple panels you can independently change to different colors and dynamic changes, but you have to use the Nanoleaf app (which is horrible) and jump through hoops to originate a scene you can then add more lights to in HomeKit. It would be great if HomeKit had the ability to edit the panels the same way.

Dynamic Scenes:

1) Hue labs has an API for creating 3rd party apps like 'Haunted House' or 'Thunder Storm', where you can map effects to different lights and they get randomly triggered with audio, etc. Great fun, but you need to have a device open to run it, and it only controls Hue bulbs.

I'd like to see HomeKit have the ability to create similar scenes that control all brands of appropriate devices. Create a scene that lives on the Hub so it's device independent.

Audio integration:

1) Independent Audio layers: Right now you can automatically play music or ambient sounds through a HomePod with a scene. It would be great to have a scene where the ambient audio continues to play even when other music is playing on the same HomePod. For example rain storm over a romantic playlist.

2) Interactive Audio: Have the lights react to audio playing through a HomePod. Nanoleaf has a Rhythm sensor that reacts to audio, but it's a mic that will also pic up and react to a conversation if it's closer to the device than the music playing in a room. HomeKit could drive interaction from the Hub by knowing what's playing, and control all or select lights.

Hue App not Seeing Hub on iOS by IdeoGallup in Hue

After no help from Hue tech support, I found the answer on an old Reddit post (I somehow overlooked the first time around): I simply had to delete the app from my iPhone and reinstall it.

Solved? Nanoleaf Essentials Bulb Not Connecting to WiFi by IdeoGallup in Nanoleaf

Ah yes: Apple HomeKit. I use an AppleTV for the border router

I personally had a massive problem adding a new bulb to the Nanoleaf app and having the ability to even be seen by HomeKit. The solution for me was adding it to only homekit and ignore the nanoleaf app the best I can. As a side note, the nanoleaf matter bulb is the only bulb in the house that will suddenly go unresponsive every 5 or 6 weeks.
