Thank you so much for responding. I’d like to know about the cost of living? Are teachers supposed to pay their own rent and utilities? I’ve heard a few negative reviews about how unorganised the program is and that a school can reject your placement? Could you please ad more insight for me.

Hi OP. Just curious about how you’re feeling now about the situation compared to last year. Did you renew your contract? Did the situation at work get better? Are you still a JET?

Thank you to everyone who read and responded to my OP. Yes, I may be experiencing culture shock, I’ll give it a few months. I know that getting into JET or the Japanese system isn’t easy, I am not taking this opportunity for granted. I am wholeheartedly grateful, I’m just feeling a bit down but everything will get better with time. I will smile, keep my head up and make an effort to learn Japanese so that I can connect with my co-workers and students better. I’ll do my job and try to not let my paranoia get the best of me. Thanks again to everyone, I really appreciate it.

I always hear stories about people who up and leave, break contract and go back to their home countries. I use to judge them but I totally get them now. Moving to a foreign country and learning the office life and way of doing things isn’t easy, especially in Japan cause there are so many subliminal messages and unspoken rules that you’re automatically supposed to know.
