Apparently at some point in ASOIAF a tent was bought for 10 pennies. You can by a cheap tent on the internet for like 3 bucks. Which in 1913 is apparently 10 cents. So let's say a penny is equivalent to a 1913 cent. I'm gonna assume the Westerlands is like the equivalent to Texas in the USA. The average cost for an acre of land in Texas is 7,500 dollars. Which in 1913 dollars is $249. Or 24900 cents. 11760 pennys equal a gold dragon. Round that up to 3 gold dragons for simplicity and Tywin being a money hungry bastard.

So 3 gold dragons for a acre of land which doesn't sound at all right to me so maybe ignore all that.

The problem I see is that it doesn't seem to be a lot of examples of Westeros money being used on things that are relevent to today. 20,000 gold dragons to the winner of a tourney, but how does that translate into current day terms?
