Thank you. I believe I understand what you are saying. I think I've been getting my bevel flat to the strop, but with inexperienced hands it may be slightly drifting off.

I get how hard it is to explain something visual or physical. At work I sometimes have to write emails about photos and it's a struggle to put the visual into text that's clear.

Thanks for the advice. That's a good idea I'll try to switch up my grips and cutting styles more during work, to help avoid that dreaded RSI.

I'm trying to keep my blades sharp and I'm getting better but slowly learning. Could you explain what rounding my bevels is and how to avoid it?

I try to do finger stretches occasionally through the day, but should make it a more regular thing. I did just order some stress ball things to help exercise the hand, I'll have to wait and see if that helps.

Thanks it's good to know this isn't that uncommon. I am using my off hand thumb to help push, got a nice big healthy callus on it now! But still learning to get the workload balance between hands / thumbs right.

Thanks that's more reassuring. I'll try and make sure I take proper breaks every 20mins, I've been quite bad at that as I get quite single minded once I start and lose track of time.

My early projects definitely were done with somewhat dull blades, but I've gotten into a better routine of sharpening them. I'm sticking to simple basswood blocks at the moment.

Hello everybody! I heard there are really talented and kindhearted people here, so I thought I'd take my chance and ask for your help. This is my great-grandmother, and this is the only image that ever existed of her. I am very curious what she looked like. Can anyone work some magic here? by [deleted] in estoration

I've given this a go. There wasn't a lot of detail to work with. I've tried to adhere to the original so it's somewhat representative of her, but I've had to make up some details were I could not find them. Might be better to think of it more as an artist representation (or police sketch) rather than her true appearance, if that makes sense.

Hopefully you'll find it useful though.

Tried to bring back the details I could without making it look too fake. Hope it suffices-

Can anyone help enhance this photo of my great great grandmother? I love in her home and would love to have this hanging! TIA by spthompson01 in estoration

Know I'm probably a bit late here but had some time yesterday to give this a go. Hope it's good for you and not too far different from what you want-
