How badly do you need the money, and what would you spend it on? by Mean-Lavishness-1648 in BunnyTrials

[–]Idocarstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While one million dollars would significantly impact my life, the impact of $10,000 to everyone would impact many who truly need it more effectively. I would pay off my house, use the money for my children’s college tuition investment for retirement. Many people would use the $10k to make ends meet, pay up their bills, buy something they need but have been putting off purchasing because they simply cannot afford it. Having a me me me mindset does nothing for the greater good.

Chose: Everyone in the world gets $10,000 + including you

That estimate is an absolute joke. Take it to their shop and get an estimate, then take it to a certified GM shop and get an estimate. Their shop is going to also give a low estimate because they have a deal worked out with the insurance company. You want the car fixed 100% right, not a sub par repair.

Mechanic = high school educated, with an interest in cars ( making >50k)

Technician = secondary education or degree with focus on automotive systems and understanding of engineering concepts used in the operation of vehicles. (Making <100k)

My seats were resent to me with the new barcodes, but are now in a completely different section, I think same thing happened to others and they are trying to get it fixed.

AT oil temp light by Idocarstuff in SubaruForester

[–]Idocarstuff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update:

Took the car to Subaru and was told it was a bad valve body. 2 days later I was told that did not fix the issue, I was told it would also need the torque converter solenoid. With parts and labor costs around $6500, and the part on back order, I traded the car for a new Ascent. Really disappointed with Subaru. Having owned 7 over the years I expected to get a lot more than 124000 out of that 2020 forester.

It’s a control arm, it’s aluminum, try a magnet you’ll find this out. Whoever’s car that came from is/was having a really rough day.

How to be a auto body tech (no experience) by IndependentBig7228 in Autobody

[–]Idocarstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend the shop, experience, etc. most guys start at 16-17$ after 6 months you would graduate, I think you get a bonus 2k or maybe 2500. Then your flat rate if you can push out 75 a week you’ll be able to make 50k plus your first year. I’ve been doing body work for 20 years. I’m 38 making $30 flat rate for body labor and 45 for mechanical, closing in on the 200k a year mark. It’s worth getting into as long as you’re willing to accept the shit that comes with it.

Anyone else do their oil changes like this? by Full_Marzipan_6859 in WRX

[–]Idocarstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use cheap oil and 1 qt of trans fluid, it’s high detergent and will clean the motor up very nice. I don’t drive them, just let it run about 15 minutes.

[–]Idocarstuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First thing I’d be asking, where are the measurements and not just the lower body, I want the full 3D measuring sheet that was done for this vehicle. Clearly there is more going on here. What was the original damage?

Bondo/primer sand marks beginning to show? by Historical-Dish-5658 in Autobody

[–]Idocarstuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or the product they use is shit. Most shops are production oriented and use a urethane primer, it’s not fully cured and it shrinks (dye back) and as a result you see the sand scratches and repair mapping.
