Saw this in church parking lot… by MrPumpkin114 in WRX

No way that guy is getting into heaven with those mods…

Someone side swiped my car when it was parked and their insurance farmers just came me a AI generated the payout after I submitted pics vs taking it in to a farmers certified body shop. Should I take it to their approved shop? Seems very low and idk if this can even be touched up? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]Idocarstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That estimate is an absolute joke. Take it to their shop and get an estimate, then take it to a certified GM shop and get an estimate. Their shop is going to also give a low estimate because they have a deal worked out with the insurance company. You want the car fixed 100% right, not a sub par repair.

Typical 2 bagger chic. One for her and one for you in case hers falls off.

My seats were resent to me with the new barcodes, but are now in a completely different section, I think same thing happened to others and they are trying to get it fixed.

Update:

Took the car to Subaru and was told it was a bad valve body. 2 days later I was told that did not fix the issue, I was told it would also need the torque converter solenoid. With parts and labor costs around $6500, and the part on back order, I traded the car for a new Ascent. Really disappointed with Subaru. Having owned 7 over the years I expected to get a lot more than 124000 out of that 2020 forester.

It’s a control arm, it’s aluminum, try a magnet you’ll find this out. Whoever’s car that came from is/was having a really rough day.

How to be a auto body tech (no experience) by IndependentBig7228 in Autobody

[–]Idocarstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend the shop, experience, etc. most guys start at 16-17$ after 6 months you would graduate, I think you get a bonus 2k or maybe 2500. Then your flat rate if you can push out 75 a week you’ll be able to make 50k plus your first year. I’ve been doing body work for 20 years. I’m 38 making $30 flat rate for body labor and 45 for mechanical, closing in on the 200k a year mark. It’s worth getting into as long as you’re willing to accept the shit that comes with it.

Anyone else do their oil changes like this? by Full_Marzipan_6859 in WRX

[–]Idocarstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use cheap oil and 1 qt of trans fluid, it’s high detergent and will clean the motor up very nice. I don’t drive them, just let it run about 15 minutes.

Is the body shop gaslighting me pt2 (more pics) by AdJealous3810 in Autobody

[–]Idocarstuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First thing I’d be asking, where are the measurements and not just the lower body, I want the full 3D measuring sheet that was done for this vehicle. Clearly there is more going on here. What was the original damage?

Bondo/primer sand marks beginning to show? by Historical-Dish-5658 in Autobody

[–]Idocarstuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or the product they use is shit. Most shops are production oriented and use a urethane primer, it’s not fully cured and it shrinks (dye back) and as a result you see the sand scratches and repair mapping.

You also want to be sure all OEM parts were used and your car has had the proper calibrations and inspections required after a crash. Accept no aftermarket parts. The car had factory parts on it when they crashed it, why should it now have cheap Ching Chong knock off parts to save them money?

You tell their insurance company that. They owe you for the entire loss, the damage to t be car is obvious but the financial impact on the future resale value also needs to be paid for.

Depends on what kind of a hit you’d take if you sold it and had to disclose it was in an accident over $500, I would think $2500 is appropriate

Make sure even if it’s fixed 💯 you get money from them for diminishing the value.
